KFC is innovating in the fast-food world with its first-of-a-kind fried chicken vending machine, and they’re offering free samples to those lucky enough to locate it.
Starting October 18th, you’ll be able to get the brand’s new Sweet Tokyo Hot & Crispy chicken from a vending machine.
This special-edition menu item is teriyaki-glazed, boneless chicken covered in sesame seeds. It’s currently available in Australia and can be ordered without any face-to-face contact.
KFC says customers can expect the same quality chicken from the new Sweet Tokyo vending machines as they get in their restaurants. The machines will be refilled often with freshly cooked chicken delivered directly from a nearby KFC location.
There’s a twist: the location of the machine is a secret! KFC will be posting clues on social media, leading fans to a hidden spot – described as Sydney’s spiciest alleyway. Those who successfully find it will be rewarded with free boxes of the new chicken flavor.

KFC adds to wild 2025 with fried chicken vending machine
This promotion is inspired by Japanese pop culture. A new ad, filmed in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district by director Hiroshi Kikuchi, playfully shows a love story between crispy chicken and teriyaki sauce. It’s fast-paced and visually exciting, featuring quick cuts, whimsical sesame seed characters, and lots of energy.
Customers can choose from a couple of special deals. The Sweet Tokyo Box includes a Zinger burger, fries, mashed potatoes with gravy, and a drink. For a bigger meal, the Sweet Tokyo Fill Up features two pieces of chicken, fries, mashed potatoes with gravy, and a dinner roll.
It’s currently unknown whether KFC plans to expand these vending machines internationally, bringing their famous fried chicken to fans worldwide. For the time being, they will only be available in Australia.
This KFC vending machine is part of a trend of unusual promotions from the company. They previously surprised customers by creating gravy-flavored ice cream, called Gravy Gelato.
And, if you want to brush your teeth after, the chain unveiled fried chicken-flavored toothpaste.
To top it all off, KFC Canada launched a ‘Pickled Menu,’ including a Pickle Pepsi! Those items would be a fantastic addition to a KFC vending machine, don’t you think?
