It’s enjoyable to feel powerful in video games and easily defeat enemies, but overpowered abilities can ruin the experience by removing challenges. To fix this, developers sometimes release ‘nerfs’ – adjustments that weaken those abilities. If you’ve played the popular indie game Megabonk, you might remember a particularly strong combination involving a character named Kevin. A recent update toned down this powerful combo, though it didn’t completely eliminate Kevin’s effectiveness, as other items still work incredibly well with his special teddy bear. Here are a few strategies to maximize your success with this adjusted setup… at least until the developers make further changes.
Powerful combos with nerfed Kevin in Megabonk
It’s amazing how a small, inexpensive indie game like Vampire Survivors can have such a big impact. It revitalized a gaming style with its simple but effective idea, inspiring many others. Now, Megabonk takes that same concept into a 3D world, and executes it brilliantly. The game quickly became a huge success on Steam, but it also had a major balancing issue: a particular item allowed players to become virtually invincible. While that item has been adjusted, it’s still quite powerful. But how?
Kevin, an item that can sometimes hurt the player, might seem like a bad choice at first. However, it’s actually incredibly powerful, even game-breaking. Players used to combine it with the Mirror item, which reflects damage and briefly makes you invincible. This combination was nearly unstoppable due to the large number of enemies in the game. While a recent update fixed this specific strategy, Kevin still has hidden potential and can be a strong asset.
The easiest way to make Kevin a key player is to get an unlimited gold supply. You can do this by combining the Golden Shield, which gives you extra gold whenever you take damage, with Athena. Kevin boosts Athena’s powers, and she’s strongest when her health is low. When near death, Athena deals more damage and also gains Thorns, which reflects damage back at attackers.
Although Megabonk can be challenging at times – tough challenges and hidden boss portals can be frustrating – it’s actually quite enjoyable with a bit of luck and understanding of the game. As the game becomes more popular, it might even appear on consoles if the developers decide to port it.
