I was surprised to read that Kevin Costner is facing a lawsuit! Apparently, Western Costume – the company behind amazing looks in films like The Prestige, Mad Men, and 12 Years a Slave – is suing him and his production team for over $400,000 in unpaid rental fees for the costumes used in Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2. The suit was filed just before the holidays, on December 22nd, and so far, Costner hasn’t said anything publicly about it. It’s a bit of a shock, considering all the work that goes into a Western like Horizon and how important the costumes are!
I was shocked to read that Western Costume is suing for over $424,000! Apparently, they claim the production owes them $134,256.82 for costume rentals. But it doesn’t stop there – they’re also asking for $150,000 to cover damaged costumes, plus $40,000 in interest and another $100,000 as punishment. On top of everything, they want $200,000 to cover their legal fees. It’s a huge amount of money!
The legal battle comes as the second film in Kevin Costner’s planned four-part Horizon series faces difficulties. The first two movies cost $100 million to produce but earned only $34 million in ticket sales after their June 2024 release. The second film, originally slated for release in the same year, was put on hold due to the disappointing box office results of the first. Despite this, Costner stated at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2024 that he was determined to make a third film – but not with the help of Western Costume.
