As a movie buff with over three decades of experiencing Hollywood’s highs and lows, I must admit that Kevin Costner‘s nonchalance towards the “Yellowstone” series finale leaves me a bit puzzled. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that an actor may need some space to disassociate from a character they have played for so long, but not giving it any thoughts? That’s like saying you don’t remember your first kiss!
Kevin Costner, in a conversation with the Daily Mail, shared that he’s yet to ponder over the conclusion of “Yellowstone” which was broadcasted on December 15.
In the premier of Yellowstone’s Season 5 Part 2, Costner’s character John Dutton was written off. Regarding the series finale, he mentioned, “I haven’t been considering [the Yellowstone finale]. I don’t believe I’ve given it a second thought, we’ll simply let it pass.
In November, Costner discussed his character’s death in an interview on “The Michael Smerconish Program” with SiriusXM. He mentioned that he hadn’t watched the premiere of Season 5 Part 2 at that point, but found out about his character’s end the day after the episode was broadcasted.
Costner stated, ‘I didn’t catch sight of it.’ He mentioned that he’s heard it’s a case of suicide, which isn’t compelling him to hastily go watch it.
In a different part of the interview, Costner mentioned that during the show’s initial stages, there were instances where he discussed potential endings for his character, but these endings did not involve suicide. However, he emphasized that it was up to the “Yellowstone” writers to decide how they wanted to write his character out of the storyline.
Kevin Costner left the show “Yellowstone” following Season 5 Part 1, which aired in autumn 2022. He revealed this news through a video shared on social media, stating: “After spending over a year working on ‘Horizon’ and handling all that it entails, as well as contemplating the beloved series ‘Yellowstone,’ I came to the conclusion that I won’t be able to continue with Season 5B or beyond. This decision has deeply affected me. I cherished our time together, and I believe you did too. I simply wanted to inform you that I won’t be coming back. I value the relationships I’ve built here, and I look forward to seeing you at the cinema.
On December 15th, I found myself among the 11.4 million viewers who tuned into the final episode of Taylor Sheridan’s Western drama, as reported by VideoAmp data from Paramount. This finale was claimed by Paramount to be the most-watched episode in the series’ history.
