Kenny Omega explains why Street Fighter’s Alex belongs in next Super Smash Bros

Okay, so as a fighting game fan, this is awesome! AEW’s Kenny Omega didn’t just help create this new Street Fighter 6 character, Alex – he became him! He did the motion capture himself and even put some of his pro wrestling moves into the character’s moveset. Now he’s saying he wants to see Alex make the jump over to Super Smash Bros., which honestly, I’m totally on board with!

I was reading an interview with Kenny over at TopMob, and they asked him about video game crossovers – you know, like how Ryu and Ken from Street Fighter ended up in Super Smash Bros. I was really curious to hear his thoughts on whether Alex could join the Smash roster too, and TopMob asked him that directly!

Omega thought the character seemed like he’d be enjoyable to play. He believes the character has a good variety of attacks that would work well in the game Smash.

The AEW wrestler pointed out that, like Bowser in other games who has impressive grab attacks, Alex could become the ultimate character in Smash known for those same kinds of moves.

I understand why some players dislike characters with unavoidable grab attacks. They might not want to see them in games anymore, but as someone who enjoys wrestling, that’s exactly what I love! I’d really like to see more wrestling moves and grappling techniques in games.

It’s not unusual to see wrestling moves in Super Smash Bros. Characters like Incineroar and Min Min can perform a German Suplex throw, and ROB has a move similar to a piledriver.

If Alex from Street Fighter 6 were in Super Smash Bros., it would create an amazing sight: Sephiroth getting hit by his signature move, the One-Winged Angel – which is known as the Omega Wing Buster in Street Fighter 6.

Kenny Omega urges Sakurai to add Alex to Smash

We asked Kenny Omega what he’d like to say to Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Super Smash Bros., about the inclusion of AEW’s Alex in the game, and Kenny shared a sincere and emotional message.

Hey, seriously, have you seen how much love my main, Alex, gets in fighting games? It’s amazing! And you could have that same energy, that same hype, if you just added him to Smash. I’m telling you, put Alex in Smash – it would be incredible!

Although Nintendo hasn’t officially announced a new Super Smash Bros. game, there’s strong speculation that one is in development for the next Nintendo Switch console. Reports suggest Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the series, has come out of retirement to lead the project.

We don’t know yet if the next game will be an enhanced version of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, or a brand new title, but fans are excited to find out.

There’s growing speculation that Super Smash Bros. might get its own movie, sparked by the appearance of Fox McCloud from Star Fox in the Mario movie.

We also chatted with Omega about the possibility of him appearing as Alex in the next Street Fighter movie, alongside wrestlers Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns.
