The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, will feature several beloved characters from the classic X-Men films. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden are all returning to their roles. Interestingly, Kelsey Grammer has already made a comeback as Beast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing at the end of 2023’s The Marvels. Now, it’s been revealed that this earlier appearance will lead directly into the events of Avengers: Doomsday, and Grammer has shared some hints about what fans can expect from his character in the new film.
While promoting his new movie, Turbulence, Kelsey Grammer discussed his return as Beast (Hank McCoy) in Avengers: Doomsday and shared why he enjoys the role. He explained that the character’s defining trait is his kind heart. Grammer believes Beast is one of the most relatable and grounded X-Men, despite his appearance. He particularly loves how Beast openly shows affection for his friends, often surprising people with the depth of his caring nature, which Grammer finds very appealing.
For years, people have speculated that Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created the X-Men as a reflection of the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 60s. Although never officially stated, many believe Professor X (played by Stewart in Avengers: Doomsday) was inspired by Martin Luther King Jr., and Magneto (Ian McKellen) by Malcolm X. However, according to Grammer, the Beast character also shared many similarities with Martin Luther King Jr. He explained further:
I’ve always seen him as a leader, like Martin Luther King Jr. for mutants. What truly defines him is his strong moral character – he consistently acts with dignity, kindness, and decency. Those qualities are really who he is, and that’s what I admire most. I appreciate that he doesn’t rush to anger, but when he’s provoked, he fights with everything he has, showing no mercy and expecting none in return. He’s a true fighter, dedicated to doing what’s right, and that’s why I love him so much.
Will More X-Men Characters Appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?

Walt Disney Studios
The upcoming movie Doomsday won’t only feature classic X-Men characters. Channing Tatum will be back as Gambit, a role he previously played in Deadpool & Wolverine. Many fans expect Deadpool and Wolverine to join a future Marvel team-up movie, and believe this film will significantly change the direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ryan Reynolds hasn’t said anything about reprising his role as Deadpool, but Hugh Jackman recently hinted he might not be finished playing Wolverine, sparking excitement among Marvel fans. Despite this, neither actor has been officially confirmed to be in Avengers: Doomsday. As of now, the cast revealed in Marvel Studios’ lengthy announcement video is still considered the complete lineup.
