Kellan Lutz Did Not Know Any Better When Fans Used To Barge Into His Hotel Rooms During Twilight Craze

The “Twilight” series has a famously devoted fanbase, both in books and movies. Even before the first film was announced, Stephanie Meyer’s vampire story had a large and passionate following. The actors who eventually starred in the movies didn’t initially realize just how popular “Twilight” was. Kellan Lutz, who played Emmett Cullen, shared that he quickly understood the extent of the “Twilight” craze when fans began showing up at his hotel.

The Legend of Hercules actor recently reunited with his Twilight brethren, Peter Facinelli (Carlisle) and Jackson Rathbone (Jasper), at the San Francisco Fan Expo. The three Cullens chopped it up on stage, reminiscing about the early days of filming the first Twilight movie, nearly two decades ago. It turns out Twilight fans found the vampire actors’ hotel rooms while they were filming the first film. Lutz hilariously admitted that he didn’t know any better, and let them in:

Fans of the Twilight movies discovered where the actors were staying during filming of the first movie. I enjoy interacting with people, so they started showing up at our hotel rooms with gifts – things like food, games, and even beef jerky and pretzels. I remember asking Peter if he’d gotten similar deliveries at his door!

Edie Falco, known for her role in Nurse Jackie, had been working in film much longer than Scott Eastwood. She explained she needed to have a serious conversation with him, like a father figure would, and tell him it wasn’t okay to invite fans up to his hotel room, even if they offered him gifts. Eastwood, at the time, was a bit inexperienced and didn’t fully understand the situation, saying:

I thought they worked there, and so I’m like ‘Yeah, come on in!’ They tricked me!

I can understand why Twilight fans felt comfortable enough to unexpectedly enter Kellan Lutz’s hotel room. If he’d taken the role of Edward instead of declining, the fan attention would likely have been much more overwhelming than just a simple visit. However, judging by the complete video, Lutz probably would have dealt with the situation calmly.

Fans of the Twilight series, often called ‘Twihards,’ have sometimes struggled to respect the privacy of its stars, particularly Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. While this hasn’t been ideal, most fans haven’t meant any harm, and the actors have always valued their dedicated fanbase. Even now, nearly twenty years later, Robert Pattinson still gets questions daily about the series and its impact on pop culture.

Several of the original actors from the Twilight films have expressed interest in returning to their roles, even for voice work. They recently shared that they contacted Netflix about potentially voicing their characters in the upcoming animated adaptation of Midnight Sun – a retelling of Twilight from Edward’s point of view – but Netflix decided to go with a different cast and didn’t even offer them an audition. This included Lutz, Facinelli, Rathbone, and Ashley Greene (who played Alice).

It’s really too bad to hear that, because I always loved seeing those actors connect with the passionate Twilight fans. Unlike some newer actors, Lutz and the rest of the Cullen family are clearly used to the excitement around Twilight, which is sure to come back strong, even if that wasn’t the case for Lutz at first. I’m hoping the show’s producers reconsider and bring back the original Cullen cast.
