Keke Palmer and SZA’s Comedy ‘One of Them Days’ Moves Up Release to MLK Weekend

As someone who has always cherished the camaraderie between friends and the power of laughter to heal, I am thrilled about the release date shift for Sony’s “One of Them Days.” Keke Palmer and SZA, two extraordinary talents, joining forces for this buddy comedy is a delightful prospect.

As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Sony has shifted the release of their buddy comedy, “One of Them Days,” starring the talented Keke Palmer and SZA. Originally slated for January 24th, this hilarious flick will now grace our screens on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, specifically on the 17th of January. Can’t wait to catch it!

A studio insider discloses to EbMaster that the change in release date was strategically planned to capitalize on the upcoming long weekend, as there are no other comedies scheduled during those days. The film, produced by Issa Rae’s Hoorae, penned by Syreeta Singleton, and directed by Lawrence Lamont, is distributed by TriStar Pictures.

Dreux (Keke Palmer) and her best friend Alyssa (SZA), who also live together, are heading for a challenging day, as suggested by the plot. The revelation that Alyssa’s boyfriend squandered their rent money sets off a series of humorous events as they scramble desperately to meet deadlines, prevent eviction, and salvage their friendship.

Alongside Lil Rel Howery, Janelle James, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Maude Apatow, Katt Williams, Joshua Neal, Aziza Scott, Patrick Cage, Dewayne Perkins, Amin Joseph, Gabrielle Dennis, and DomiNque Perry, the cast also features prominently.

In December 2022, for the first time, Palmer and SZA collaborated during “Saturday Night Live”, with Palmer as the host and SZA serving as the musical performer. Notably, “One of Them Days” is where SZA made her acting debut.

As a movie reviewer, I had the privilege of witnessing a groundbreaking collaboration between ColorCreative and Sony Pictures. This innovative partnership, known as the CoCre Lab, was established with the goal of discovering and nurturing fresh, diverse screenwriting talent. The selected writers were given the opportunity to develop and script their very first studio feature film, all based on their original ideas. It’s truly exciting to see such a commitment to diversity and fresh voices in Hollywood!

The film titled ‘One of Them Days’ is being brought to you by a collaboration between Hoorae’s Rae and Sara Diya Rastogi, Deniese Davis and Macro Creative’s Macro Film Studios, along with Charles D. King, James Lopez, and Poppy Hanks from Macro Film Studios. Singleton is also involved in the production process. Palmer will serve as executive producer for her Big Boss production company, joined by Sharon Palmer. Furthermore, Macro Film Studios is contributing to the project’s financing.
