Kaitlyn Dever Plays a Cancer-Faking Influencer in Netflix’s ‘Apple Cider Vinegar’ Trailer

The recently released trailer unveils the upcoming Netflix miniseries titled “Apple Cider Vinegar,” which focuses on the story of Belle Gibson, the notorious Australian influencer exposed for her deceit.

The official summary is, ‘Apple Cider Vinegar’ takes place during the emergence of Instagram, focusing on two young women fighting life-threatening conditions by promoting health and wellness. As they gain a global following, their journey would be incredibly motivating if only it were based on reality.’ Netflix describes ‘Apple Cider Vinegar’ as a ‘sort-of true tale spun from a fabrication, detailing the ascent and collapse of a wellness empire; the society that supported its growth and the individuals who ultimately brought it down.’

As I sat down to watch the latest flick, I was intrigued by the dynamic between Belle (Kaitlyn Dever) and Milla Blake (Alycia Debnam-Carey), a well-known blogger with a hidden battle against cancer. Initially, they seem destined to form an alliance, but their competitive spirits soon lead them down a path of rivalry. Chanelle (Aisha Dee), Milla’s friend, hints that Belle might be using her for professional gains, to which Milla acknowledges her suspicions.

Belle is persistently seen navigating through hospital machinery while simultaneously growing her fanbase on Instagram. The tension between the two bloggers escalates when, during a phone conversation, Milla declares her intention to bring Belle down.

In addition to Dever, Debnam-Carey, and Dee, the ensemble also features Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Ashley Zukerman, Mark Coles Smith, Susie Porter, Matt Nable, Phoenix Raei, Chai Hansen, Rick Davies, Kieran Darcy-Smith, Catherine McClements, and Essie Davis.

As a keen reader, I’ve been captivated by “The Woman Who Fooled the World” written by Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano. This fascinating story has a unique origin, as it was brought to life by Samantha Strauss, in collaboration with Anya Beyersdorf and Angela Betzien. Alongside Strauss, executive producers Louise Gough via Picking Scabs; Liz Watts, Helen Gregory, Emile Sherman, and Iain Canning from See-Saw Films; and Kaitlyn Dever were instrumental in its creation. Directing the project is Jeffrey Walker, with co-executive producers being Simon Gillis of See-Saw and himself. Yvonne Collins serves as producer, while Libby Sharpe of See-Saw takes on the role of co-producer. The production was supported by VicScreen in Melbourne, with post-production taking place in New South Wales, thanks to Screen NSW and their PDV Fund.
