I was really excited to see that Christofer Sundberg, one of the creators of Just Cause, started a new studio called Liquid Swords a few years ago. They just dropped the first trailer for their first game, Samson: A Tyndalston Story, and it looks awesome! People are already comparing it to Grand Theft Auto, but from what I’ve seen, it seems like making money in Samson is going to be a lot more challenging – which honestly, sounds pretty cool!
In the city of Tyndalston, you’ll play as Samson McCray, an older criminal struggling with a large debt. You can choose to steal the money to pay it off, but unlike many other open-world crime games, you can’t endlessly play. Samson is getting older and can only handle so much in a day, tracked by an ‘action point’ system. Overexert yourself on one task, and you’ll be limited in what else you can accomplish.
In this city, every mistake and every crime adds to a growing debt that follows you. Your reputation, for better or worse, becomes a permanent record. As Liquid Swords says, you can’t go back – moving forward, even when it’s difficult, is the only option. This is a story about facing the consequences of your actions and fighting to survive, and Samson will be forced to confront all of it every single day.
According to Sundberg, Samson was designed to be impactful and memorable. It’s a gritty, action-packed story where challenges are constant. This project represents the core of what Liquid Swords aims to achieve, and the team has created something truly powerful. We’ve overcome significant changes and streamlined our process. Recognizing the current pressures facing the industry, Samson is our deliberate and focused response – a project built on quality, not extravagance. This marks our path forward.
Samson: A Tyndalston Story will be released on PC in early 2026 on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
