The new Jurassic Park movie has quickly become a top 10 hit on one streaming service after a successful run in theaters this summer. Directed by Gareth Edwards, the film earned $868 million worldwide at the box office.
I’m so excited to hear that Jurassic World Rebirth is officially the most popular movie on Peacock in the US right now! As of November 1st, it’s beating out some really big titles – even movies like The Grinch, M3GAN 2.0, Corpse Bride, and How to Train Your Dragon. It’s awesome to see so many people are enjoying the dinosaur action!
Peacock’s most popular shows today include several Halloween classics like Monster House (2006), Scream (2022), Ghostbusters (1984), and Scary Movie (2000). Rounding out the top ten is How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014). Rebirth is a new addition to the top 10, having only appeared yesterday, so its ranking may change in the days and weeks ahead.
Recently, Jurassic Park has become popular on streaming services, but reactions have been mixed. Critics gave the film a fairly average score of 50% on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences rated it a bit higher at 71%, though still not overwhelmingly positive.
In a review for ScreenRant, Mary Kassel gave Jurassic World Rebirth a 7 out of 10, calling it the best and most impactful Jurassic film in years. She particularly liked that the movie returned to the series’ roots, featuring exciting action sequences and strong acting, including a notable performance by Scarlett Johansson. Kassel noted:
Returning to its roots was exactly what this film needed. By focusing on a simple story and relatable characters, it avoids unnecessary complexity and feels like a classic. It’s sure to be a box office success, but beyond that, it seems like the filmmakers genuinely aimed to recapture the wonder of the original Jurassic Park, not just make a profit.
I’m so excited about the new Jurassic World film, Rebirth! It’s fantastic to see such a talented cast joining Scarlett Johansson, including Jonathan Bailey, Mahershali Ali, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, and David Iacono. And I was thrilled to learn that David Koepp, who wrote the original Jurassic Park and its sequel, is back to write this one! It’s also great to see director Gareth Edwards following up his work on The Creator with this project.
While at the cinema, Rebirth isn’t performing as well as recent Jurassic World films. The original Jurassic World from 2015 still leads the franchise with $1.6 billion earned globally. Fallen Kingdom (2018) made $1.3 billion, and Dominion (2022) brought in $1 billion. With Rebirth earning $868 million, it appears interest in the Jurassic World series has been gradually decreasing over the last ten years.
Despite some mixed reviews, Jurassic World Rebirth was definitely a success. While it’s uncertain what the future holds for the series, another movie likely will happen. The film’s strong performance on streaming services shows there’s still plenty of interest in the Jurassic World franchise.
