With the new Scrubs revival coming soon, fans are eager to see the Sacred Heart crew back together after nearly 17 years. Bill Lawrence, the creator behind the show, has become even more popular recently thanks to hits like Ted Lasso and Shrinking. Many new viewers are discovering his work, including the original, funny medical comedy Scrubs, which makes the revival premiering February 25th on ABC all the more anticipated.
In addition to Judy Reyes as Carla Espinosa and John C. McGinley as Perry Cox, the Scrubs reboot will also feature returning stars Zach Braff as John Dorian, Donald Faison as Christopher Turk, and Sarah Chalke as Elliot Reid. Judy Reyes recently told MovieWeb what convinced her and the other actors to reprise their roles for the new season.
The main condition for all of us – the five of us plus our guest stars and Bill Lawrence – to participate was that we all be together. Once that was agreed upon, it felt secure. Then Bill wrote the script, we read it, and it was genuinely funny.

The cast returning for the new Scrubs series knew they needed to appeal to today’s viewers. While many watching the revival will be longtime fans who enjoyed the show when it first aired, a significant number will be new to the series or discovered it after it ended in 2010. Actress Reyes discussed this in a recent interview with MovieWeb.
We had a fantastic table read – the energy was incredible! Everyone was really excited and stayed afterwards to chat, take pictures, and discuss how great it was. We instantly knew we were onto something special.
Everything Reyes said really hits the mark. Scrubs is a beloved show, and any revival needs to be done well, especially considering its cultural impact. The new season currently has an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and critics generally like the fresh direction it takes. Reviewers have noted that the show successfully captures the original’s spirit while feeling modern, which should appeal to both longtime fans and new viewers. It’s also clear the original cast members genuinely care about the show and returned because they love their characters, not just for financial reasons.

Fans will need to wait until February 25th, when the Scrubs revival premieres on ABC and Hulu, to see if the show lives up to expectations. While Carla Reyes wasn’t in Season 9, the revival seems to be rewriting that part of the story, so it will be interesting to see if the show addresses her absence. What’s certain is that Carla Reyes was enthusiastic about bringing Scrubs back from the start.
