Disney has officially named Josh D’Amaro as its new CEO, following recent discussions about a change in leadership. The company’s board voted unanimously on Monday to promote D’Amaro, and the news was announced Tuesday. He will take over as CEO at Disney’s annual meeting on March 18th. At that time, Bob Iger will move into a role as Senior Advisor and remain on the Disney Board until his retirement at the end of 2026.
Disney has finally named Josh D’Amaro as its next CEO, ending years of guessing about who would replace Bob Iger. D’Amaro has been with Disney for 28 years and has led the Parks, Experiences and Products division since 2020. He was the leading candidate for the job for months, and the company’s board chair, James Gorman, explained that D’Amaro possesses a unique skillset that makes him the right fit to lead Disney as its ninth CEO.
As a long-time observer of the entertainment industry, I’ve been following the Disney CEO search closely, and I have to say, Josh D’Amaro seems like an inspired choice. What really struck me throughout this process is his clear vision for Disney’s future, coupled with a genuine appreciation for what makes the company so special – that magical blend of creativity and storytelling. He’s not just a business mind; he understands the heart of Disney. And his track record speaks for itself – he’s consistently delivered, working with major talents to create truly immersive experiences in the parks, seamlessly blending storytelling with innovative technology. Frankly, the Board made a smart move. I’m confident he’s fully prepared to lead Disney forward, delighting audiences worldwide and delivering solid results for investors.
D’Amaro, the incoming CEO of The Walt Disney Company, expressed his deep gratitude to the Board for giving him the opportunity to lead such a beloved company. He emphasized that Disney’s success comes from its talented people and the quality of its storytelling and experiences. He’s confident in Disney’s potential and looks forward to working with teams and partners to build on the company’s legacy while continuing to innovate and deliver value to both customers and investors. He also thanked Bob Iger for his guidance, friendship, and impactful leadership.
Dana Walden, a leading candidate to become Disney’s next CEO, has been appointed President and Chief Creative Officer of The Walt Disney Company, starting March 18th. This is a new position for the company, and Walden will report to D’Amaro. She will use her experience with Disney’s entertainment businesses around the world to create a consistent creative direction for all of Disney’s platforms and help the company achieve its goals.
