As an ardent admirer of Jonathan Majors’ talent, I find myself both heartened and disheartened by the recent developments in his life. On one hand, it is a relief to see that the legal proceedings seem to be coming to a close, allowing for some semblance of closure for all parties involved. However, it is deeply concerning to witness such a promising career being derailed by circumstances beyond the artistic realm.
On Thursday, Jonathan Majors’ former partner chose to drop a federal lawsuit that she had filed earlier, alleging that he had physically harmed her and made false statements about her.
In a court decision in December 2023, the actor known for Marvel and “Creed III” was found guilty on two misdemeanor charges related to assaulting Grace Jabbari in the back seat of an SUV. His punishment included mandatory attendance at domestic violence counseling sessions, which he started earlier this year.
In March, Jabbari filed a lawsuit against him, claiming that he had slandered her. This was based on his continued assertion, even after being found guilty, that he had “never physically touched a woman,” during an interview on “Good Morning America.
On Thursday, lawyers from both sides submitted a shared notice to the court, indicating that all accusations against the Defendant in the case mentioned earlier have been dismissed permanently.
The attorneys did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In 2023, Majors was set for a breakthrough year, sharing screen time with Michael B. Jordan in “Creed III” and portraying Kang the Conqueror in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” However, his arrest in March 2023 resulted in him being let go by his management and public relations teams. Marvel terminated their relationship with him following his conviction.
Originally, the actor was set to play the antagonist in “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” a role he no longer will due to that movie being canceled. Instead, Marvel has shifted focus to “Avengers: Doomsday,” with Robert Downey Jr. taking on the character of Doctor Doom in this new production.
This year, Major’s role in “Merciless,” a Martin Villeneuve-directed thriller, marked the beginning of his career resurgence. Additionally, “Magazine Dreams,” another film featuring Major, was picked up by Briarcliff Entertainment for distribution next year following Searchlight Pictures’ decision to no longer release it.
Majors consistently refutes the accusations of assault and expresses his eagerness to return to working in Hollywood.
