Even someone named ‘Sexiest Man Alive,’ like Jonathan Bailey, can expect some teasing from friends. This happened to the Wicked actor when he excitedly told his friends about the title before it was public – they immediately started playfully questioning if he was telling the truth.
Jimmy Fallon asked Bailey if it was difficult keeping his new title a secret until the announcement on The Tonight Show. Bailey surprisingly said it wasn’t, explaining that he didn’t think anyone expected him to get the role. He then shared a funny story about how he accidentally revealed the news to his friends while drinking, telling them he’d been named Sexiest Man Alive.
I took a short trip with friends right before the tour started, just to hang out and relax. We went out for drinks, and I jokingly announced that I was the Sexiest Man Alive. They playfully responded by telling me to keep practicing my positive affirmations.
Given the huge popularity of characters like Anthony Bridgerton and Prince Fiyero, and the viral moment with the ‘slutty little glasses’ from Jurassic World: Rebirth, it’s no surprise Bailey was chosen. He’s incredibly charming, talented, and good-looking – truly deserving of the recognition.
I was surprised I hadn’t thought of him for the role before. Apparently, his friends hadn’t either, which is understandable – it’s a bit strange to be friends with someone named People’s Sexiest Man Alive, and Bailey told them while he was drunk, so they probably weren’t taking it seriously.
Now everyone knows this wasn’t just the Bridgerton actor practicing positive self-talk. It’s genuine, and people are really supportive of it.
