The two-part musical, which has already won two Oscars, became a surprising hit, and dividing the original Broadway show into two volumes proved to be a smart move. Now, everyone is eagerly anticipating the final installment.
Speaking with recently to promote the upcoming *Part Two*, director Chu revealed they were finishing up editing just recently. He expressed immense pride in the final product and is eager for audiences to see it. He also hinted that a well-known actor will voice the Cowardly Lion in *Wicked: For Good*, which caused a huge buzz among fans.
Everyone is going to be excited when the actor who voiced the Cowardly Lion from the classic film walks the red carpet. The director predicted a short preview would build anticipation for the sequel, and it definitely worked – fans online had a lot of fun trying to figure out who it was!
It’s not surprising that Pedro Pascal was a popular answer. The star of *The Last of Us* has become increasingly well-known, and he has several projects coming up in 2024 and 2025. There’s even a running joke that he’ll appear in any major new production.
As speculation grew, names like Lin-Manuel Miranda – who Chu had collaborated with before and nearly worked with on *Wicked* – began surfacing. Miranda had even jokingly asked for a role as a munchkin, but realized it might have been too much of a distraction. One popular theory suggested Timothée Chalamet might be cast, prompting a reaction of playful dismay from fans.
While many people hoped James Corden wouldn’t be cast, Liam Neeson was another favorite choice for the role. He famously voiced Aslan, another well-known lion, in the Chronicles of Narnia films from 2005 to 2010. With him not returning to that role, fans are eager to see him as the Cowardly Lion.
It’s no surprise that Morgan Freeman also voiced the character. His distinctive and recognizable voice made him perfect for roles like the Cowardly Lion.
Keeping with the playful speculation, people started suggesting actors like Jack Black, Seth Rogen, Jared Leto, and Gal Gadot. But we’ll have to wait until *Wicked: For Good* comes out in theaters on November 21st to know for sure. However, since the director hinted at a red carpet reveal, fans will probably find out who it is before the movie’s release.
What Happens in Wicked: For Good?
After discovering the Wizard was a fraud and responsible for mistreating animals, Elphaba declared war on Oz. Before this, Madame Morrible falsely told Oz that Elphaba was causing trouble and labeled her the “Wicked Witch.” Glinda, unwilling to support Elphaba, chose to leave on her own.
The musical *Wicked: For Good* will continue to explore the contrasting paths of its main characters. The story takes place in Oz, both before and after Dorothy’s arrival, and focuses on how Elphaba and Glinda navigate their destinies as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch, respectively. Their choices will have lasting consequences for the entire land of Oz.
The movie adaptation of *Wicked: For Good* will feature the original Broadway stars, including Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq, Bowen Yang as Phanne, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard of Oz, and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible. The film will also include the character Dorothy, though her role is similar to that of the Cowardly Lion.
Wicked: For Good premieres on Nov. 21.
