The 2019 film Jojo Rabbit contains a particularly heartbreaking twist. It tells the story of Jojo, a young boy in Germany who is part of the Hitler Youth, and his discovery that his mother is secretly hiding a Jewish girl in their home.

Earlier in the film, we see quick shots of Rosie’s shoes looking down at Jojo. This makes a strong impression, so when we later see feet hanging next to Jojo, the impact is incredibly powerful.
Adding to the heartbreak, Jojo attempts to tie her shoes while crying. He’s unable to finish, overcome with emotion, and desperately clings to her legs as he feels his world falling apart.
