The continuation of Jujutsu Kaisen has been a welcome surprise for fans, especially after the somewhat divisive ending of the first series. It’s exciting to see the franchise thriving again, and after nine chapters of the sequel manga, the world of jujutsu sorcery has been significantly expanded. This is largely thanks to the introduction of the Simurians, but the story’s improvement isn’t solely due to these new, alien characters – other characters are also contributing to the series’ success.
Chapter 9 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo opens with a flashback to Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu’s childhood, featuring a character that fans of the original Jujutsu Kaisen will recognize. While Yuji Itadori and several other key characters are not yet present in this series,
Panda Officially Makes His Return to JJK Modulo’s Narrative
Panda is one of the most popular characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. He’s a unique Cursed Corpse created by Principal Yaga, designed to think and act on his own. What allowed Panda to be independent was having three cores that constantly monitored each other. Unfortunately, during the events of the series, two of those cores were destroyed.
Watching the destruction of his core components, I saw Panda gradually lose his ability to operate on his own. The story’s epilogue tells us he eventually entered a dormant state, a couple of decades after Sukuna was defeated. Luckily, that same epilogue offered a glimpse of him being found again – by two of Yuta Okkotsu’s grandchildren, who we now know are the main characters of JJK Modulo: Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu.
Chapter 9 of JJK Modulo further emphasizes the connection between the Okkotsu siblings and Panda with a flashback to their childhood. In a series of panels resembling a comic strip, Yuka tells Panda about Tsurugi’s crush, and Panda playfully questions Tsurugi about it when they’re alone. This heartwarming and funny scene provides a welcome break from the chapter’s more intense moments, though fans of the Cursed Corpse might have wished it lasted longer.
Whether the scenes with Panda, Yuka, and Tsurugi happen alongside the main events of JJK Modulo Chapter 9 is still unclear, as is whether Panda can still move independently. However, any appearance by Panda is a welcome addition, and it suggests we might see more familiar faces in upcoming chapters.
Panda’s Return Opens the Door for Even More JJK Cameos

Watching Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, it’s clear it’s taken the story in a different direction than the original Jujutsu Kaisen. Still, many fans, myself included, are eager to see more of the characters we loved from the first series. While Panda’s unique nature as a Cursed Corpse gives him a pretty good chance of surviving into the events of Modulo, it’s possible other younger students – aside from Maki and Yuta, who we know have passed away – could still be alive too.
Now that Mahito, Yuji Itadori, and Panda have all shown up in JJK Modulo, it’s evident that the author, Gege Akutami, enjoys bringing back characters from their earlier work when it suits the story. Even brief appearances, like Panda’s, are meaningful because they demonstrate these characters’ lasting impact on the future of jujutsu sorcerers.
