On a vibrant orange carpet, Jinkx Monsoon strutted her stuff at the Season 2 launch of “Sketchy Queens” in Hollywood last night. In response to Donald Trump’s ban on transgender individuals serving in the military, this accomplished Broadway performer and winner of “Drag Race All Stars,” expressed: “We’ve faced attempts to outlaw our existence before, but we’re still standing strong.
On a late Monday evening, President Trump enacted an executive decree that prohibits transgender individuals from openly serving in the military. This action was taken for the purpose of maintaining the preparedness and efficiency of our military forces.
Monsoon stated, ‘We’ve reached our limit here, and if they believe that people would voluntarily retreat into obscurity… frankly, television wouldn’t be the same without us.’ Monsoon has been vocal about Trump’s negative views towards transgender individuals in the past. In simpler terms, Monsoon is saying, ‘No one will want to see us gone just for the sake of television.’
Additionally present were Angeria Paris VanMicheals, winner of “RuPaul Drag Race: All Stars” Season 9, BenDeLaCreme, and Abigail Beverly Hillz, a trans advocate and drag queen. Similar to Monsoon, Hillz expressed, “Transgender and gender diverse individuals are not vanishing anywhere. I have always known my identity, and I was born intersex. During my teenage years, I transitioned my gender presentation.
Hillz called for people to remember “our humanity.”
BenDeLaCreme emphasized the strength of unity among LGBTQ+ individuals as their rights are challenged by the Trump administration. He expressed, “I believe it’s crucial at this moment for everyone to engage more in real-life interactions. Disconnect from digital platforms, meet your neighbors or invite friends over for a get-together.
He and Monsoon just concluded their nationwide holiday performance tour where they entertained crowds in multiple cities. BenDeLaCreme remarked, “It’s truly remarkable to have the ability to bring laughter to so many. The shared experience of thousands of people feeling the same emotions is an incredible gift.
On World of Wonder’s WoW Presents Plus, the series “Vaguely Queeny” airs every Monday, featuring Monsoon and Krug in a variety of skits. Notable guest stars for this season include Elaine Carroll, Brandon Rogers, Michael Vegas, along with former “Drag Race” stars Angeria Paris VanMichaels and Salina EsTitties.
As a movie fanatic, I couldn’t help but get excited when I heard the first episode of the new season was named “Burn the Witch.” Krug hinted at what we might see this season with a tantalizing tease: “Expect some hilarious bloopers, jokes, and a dash of glamour!
Monsoon confessed that she stores her “Drag Race” title and scepter in her office on a shelf alongside other awards. When asked which trophy she’d like to add to her collection, Monsoon said, “I’d love the ‘Tony.’ However, I don’t want it for a flashy moment; I want it when I truly deserve it. I want it after I’ve put in the effort and everyone recognizes that I earned it.
