Jimmy won’t die in Yellowstone and there’s a good reason

As a long-time Yellowstone fan with over a decade spent following the Dutton family’s tumultuous journey, I can confidently say that Jimmy is one of the most resilient characters to grace our screens. With every season, I find myself holding my breath as he narrowly escapes death, only to miraculously bounce back stronger than before.

In the world of Yellowstone, there’s a significant chance that any character could meet their end. However, has Jimmy unfortunately become one of the deceased characters yet?

If you’ve kept up with Yellowstone’s fifth season, part 2, it won’t surprise you that some characters have departed, and one of them is none other than John Dutton.

Due to their risky link to the Dutton clan, the ranch workers frequently find themselves in harm’s way as well. With the tragic loss of one of our dearest workers in the latest episode, there’s growing concern about whether Jimmy might be in jeopardy next.

Could it be that Jimmy has reached the end of his journey? Here’s a rundown of what happens to Jimmy in the series, and why he matters significantly. (Caution: spoilers are coming up!)

Does Jimmy die in Yellowstone?

Jimmy is not deceased within Yellowstone, and as the series nears its conclusion, it seems unlikely that he will meet his end there.

Jimmy had some narrow escapes, indeed. Born in a tough spot as a struggling drug dealer, he was later taken under Rip’s wing due to a familial favor. Over time, he discovered through experience what it meant to be a cowboy. Gradually, he came to comprehend the ranch life, mastering horse riding skills and livestock management.

Whenever I stepped into a new game, adversity seemed to tail me relentlessly. It wasn’t long before my old gang of drug dealers found me again on the ranch, demanding payments from me. The consequences were grim; not just me, but they also attacked my grandfather, leaving him battered and lifeless.

Afterward, Jimmy derives comfort by showcasing his skills at the rodeo. He possesses an innate ability for handling bucking horses, which eventually brings him awards and earnings. Unfortunately, during Season 3, he gets carried away one evening and falls off the horse, suffering severe injuries as a result.

Jimmy’s required to remain in the hospital for several weeks to recuperate, with John Dutton covering the expenses during this time, under the stipulation that he won’t return to rodeos. But the arrangement doesn’t hold up for too long, as Jimmy swiftly finds himself back on a horse once again.

Shortly following this event, in the final episode of Season 3, Jimmy finds himself under attack once more as the Dutton ranch is besieged by assassins. Remarkably, he manages to escape with his life and is subsequently hospitalized. In breach of his promise to John, the rancher decides to exile Jimmy, sending him instead to work at the 6666 Ranch, where he believes Jimmy can mature into a responsible adult.

It’s fortunate that Jimmy flourishes at the 6666, a place where he encounters his fiancée Emily and learns authentic cowboy skills. In Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2, he reunites with other ranch workers as they accompany him in Texas, guarding their livestock through the harsh winter.

Why the 6666 spinoff needs Jimmy

It seems highly improbable that Jimmy won’t survive until the last episodes of Yellowstone, given that he is set to star in the upcoming series, 6666.

According to its title, the upcoming TV series will be a standalone installment set exclusively in Texas, delving into the professional life at the 6666 ranch. Given that Jimmy is currently the only character from Yellowstone who lives there, it seems logical for him to headline this new program.

In other words, he must survive leaving Yellowstone safely behind (though if this is all misdirection, then maybe Jimmy isn’t the main character in the upcoming series).

People who’ve been following Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 are aware that the recent episodes have essentially catapulted the 6666 ranch into prominence, as most of the scenes unfold there. From snake dens to Beth’s visits, Texas has served as a significant backdrop for the series finale.

Given that Jimmy’s life and fiancée are currently based in Texas, it seems unlikely he’ll move back to Montana at this time. Instead, we may encounter Jimmy more frequently around these parts for the upcoming years, given his role as a young ranch hand.
