Jimmy Kimmel’s Fireside Show Soars in Ratings

Last week, Jimmy Kimmel’s comeback on air after the Los Angeles wildfires resulted in a significant increase in viewership, as indicated by Nielsen ratings and ABC. In the period between January 13th and 19th, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” surged by 45% among adults aged 18 to 49 (0.16 compared to 0.11 in the previous week), positioning it as the top late-night show in this demographic for that week.

Last week, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” had to postpone some episodes because of the devastating wildfires that swept across Los Angeles, causing significant damage in areas like Pacific Palisades and Altadena. Other fires also broke out, one in Hollywood’s Runyon Canyon, which is not far from where “Jimmy Kimmel Live” is filmed.

On January 13th, I found myself tuning into a fresh episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” where Snoop Dogg, Roy Wood Jr., and Dawes from Altadena graced the stage. This episode notched up a 0.31 rating in the demo, making it the top talk show of the night! The following Tuesday, Bill Burr, Jessica Gunning, and Neal Francis were my guests, and the show continued to dominate the ratings. To top it off, our YouTube channel garnered an impressive 19.3 million views that week!

Last week, the parking lot behind Jimmy Kimmel Live’s studio, usually the venue for live outdoor music events, was repurposed as a donation center for distributing essential items to those in need. These items included bottled water and sports drinks, baby food, pet food, non-perishable food items, hygiene products like toiletries, socks, underwear, diapers, and baby wipes. In addition, the show displayed a banner showing its support for L.A.’s first responders in front of their Hollywood studio.

In the past week, Los Angeles has been particularly unsettling, filled with fear, tension, and unusual events. This is where we work, reside, and educate our children. Jimmy Kimmel began his monologue on the 13th of January by acknowledging that the studios of ‘JKL’ had to evacuate due to the fires in Runyon Canyon nearby. He continued, “Many of us were forced to depart from our homes suddenly, and some of our colleagues even lost their homes. It’s been heartbreaking. Everyone living in this city knows someone – most of us, numerous people – families, friends, workmates, neighbors whose houses have been destroyed by the fires.

He continued by expressing that the situation has been truly devastating, startling, and horrific for everyone. However, he also emphasized that it’s been quite moving because we’re witnessing unity among people once again. Those who had their own homes destroyed were seen volunteering in parking lots, offering assistance to those who lost theirs as well.

In a separate development from ABC’s ratings news last week, the freshman show “High Potential” achieved another series high in combined ratings on multiple platforms, attracting 13.19 million total viewers and an adult 18-49 rating of 2.44 on January 14. Furthermore, “Will Trent” recorded its highest streaming figures to date on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+, as reported by the network. Additionally, “The Rookie” registered its best multiplatform total viewer count (9.33 million) in almost two years.
