Jim Tauber, Former Sidney Kimmel Entertainment President, Dies at 74

Jim Tauber, who served as president of Sidney Kimmel Entertainment for ten years before retiring in 2015, passed away on Wednesday due to issues related to multiple myeloma, according to his family. He was 74 years old.

Born and raised in Glencoe, Illinois, Tauber – who is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences – has been involved with a variety of films during his tenure at SKE. These include “Hell or High Water,” “The Place Beyond the Pines,” “Lars and the Real Girl” and “Death at a Funeral.

Initially, he worked for Columbia TriStar Pictures, serving as Executive Vice President in charge of acquisitions and legal matters. During this time, he supervised the making of movies such as “Sex, Lies and Videotape,” directed by Steven Soderbergh.

At Columbia TriStar Pictures, he held a role as Executive Vice President for Acquisitions and Legal Affairs in the early stages of his career. In this position, he oversaw the production of movies like “Sex, Lies and Videotape,” directed by Steven Soderbergh.

Subsequently, he held the positions of both President and Chief Operating Officer at Propaganda Films, where he played a key role in the production of David Lynch’s “Wild at Heart” and Spike Jonze’s “Being John Malkovich”. Additionally, he was instrumental in establishing Gramercy Pictures.

Initially, Tauber served as both the President and Chief Operating Officer for Anonymous Content during its early stages. Subsequently, he transitioned to a role as the Worldwide Executive Vice President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions at 20th Century Fox. Later on, his career path led him to SKE.

Following retirement, Tauber obtained his psychotherapist license. Alongside his wife, Laura Newman, he operated a joint practice. In recent years, they lived in Los Olivos, where they established Lefty’s Coffee shop in 2022. This business was built on ethical sourcing, a cause close to their hearts. They resided on a farm and vineyard shared with numerous animals.

Tauber is survived by his wife Laura, his sister Joanie, and daughters J.Lucy, Dixie and Zazu.
