Be warned: major spoilers for Now You See Me: Now You Don’t follow! If you haven’t seen the movie, it’s currently playing in theaters and is scheduled for release in 2025.
Before Now You See Me: Now You Don’t came out, I kept wondering if Mark Ruffalo would be in it as Dylan. Although he wasn’t officially announced as part of the cast and didn’t do any interviews for the movie, I was hoping for a surprise appearance. And I got one! The Avengers star had a quick cameo at the very end, which led me to ask Jesse Eisenberg and Isla Fisher about it.
Jesse Eisenberg Shared His Thoughts On Dylan Showing Back Up In Now You See Me: Now You Don’t
Throughout Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, hints are dropped about what happened to Mark Ruffalo’s character, Dylan. The Horseman claims he was imprisoned in Russia after their previous job failed. But in a surprising twist at the film’s end, the mastermind behind the first movie’s big reveal reappears as a hologram, showing he’s free and that this latest mission is just the start.
Jesse Eisenberg, who has played J. Daniel Atlas in all three films, explained how that concept – and why Dylan appeared as a hologram at the magicians’ new headquarters – makes sense.
The movie presents an interesting power dynamic. It initially seems like the original Horsemen are recruiting new members, but Dylan reveals he’s actually the one in control, even though Morgan Freeman’s character appears to be pulling the strings. This highlights the growing complexity and layers of control within The Eye.

The big twist in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t revealed that The Eye wasn’t the mastermind behind the theft from Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike). Instead, Charlie (Justice Smith), along with June (Ariana Greenblatt) and Bosco (Dominic Sessa), were the ones who orchestrated everything and reunited the Horsemen.
Once Charlie revealed his sister Veronika’s involvement and the first four Horsemen discovered the truth, the true mastermind behind everything began to take control. Dylan reappeared, praising the new group’s skills, and it looks like they’ve officially been accepted into the secret society. Now, they’ll be working alongside Atlas, Jack, Henley, and Merritt on their next big act.
Isla Fisher Shared How They Filmed Mark Ruffalo’s Scene And Wether He Was Actually On Set
Isla Fisher shared with me what it was like on set the day Mark Ruffalo appeared as a hologram on screen. Although Ruffalo wasn’t physically present, his voice was, as the actress explained.
We didn’t actually see him in person; he appeared as a hologram. It was just a small recording – a little snippet on a blue box – so we only heard his voice. We heard it so often that by the end, I was getting tired of it!
Given Mark Ruffalo’s busy schedule – he’s appeared in a film this year and released two TV shows, Task and Hal & Harper – it makes sense he wasn’t physically on set for this movie, especially since his character is a hologram and would require CGI regardless.
So, the cast just heard him, and it sounds like they heard him a whole lot.
If a fourth Now You See Me movie is made, fans are hoping Mark Ruffalo will return as Dylan, one of the clever minds behind the Horsemen. For now, we can be happy that Dylan appeared in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t and left us excited for the future.
