Some movies become truly iconic, defining the time they were made – and it’s not always about quality. These are the films everyone remembers as special. Michael Mann’s Heat is one of those, and its popularity has only increased over time. That’s why the news that Heat 2 is actually in the works is causing such a buzz.
For decades, fans have dreamed of a sequel to the movie Heat. It long seemed impossible, but now Heat 2 is finally moving forward. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently discussed the plans, and it sounds like filming could begin soon, giving skeptical fans reason to be optimistic. He recently told HeyUGuys…
That hopefully starts in August. That’s the next one.
The use of “hopefully” suggests that filming Heat 2 in August isn’t confirmed. However, having a target start date shows that production is likely to begin soon, and there’s a definite plan in place.
Jerry Bruckheimer says the start date for filming Heat 2 depends on two key people: Leonardo DiCaprio, who may star in the film, and Michael Mann, who is writing and directing. He added…
Leonardo, that’s a key element there. One of the key elements, Michael Mann is the other.
When Jerry Buckheimer calls DiCaprio “key,” he probably means the movie’s filming schedule might have to change to work around DiCaprio’s availability. If DiCaprio is busy with another project, making an August shoot for Heat 2 impossible, the film will likely be delayed rather than recast. The same applies to Michael Mann – no other director will be considered, as the movie is based on a script he wrote, which itself was based on a novel he authored.
As a huge fan of Heat, I’m really excited about the upcoming book – and potential movie! It’s a fascinating approach because it doesn’t just continue the story, it also goes back in time, showing us events before and immediately after the original film. It’s all a bit non-linear, which I think could be really cool. The biggest thing is they’re recasting all the roles, which is a little daunting, but also opens up some interesting possibilities. Apparently, Leonardo DiCaprio is being considered to play the role Val Kilmer made iconic, and there’s talk of Christian Bale joining the cast too. There’s also buzz about Adam Driver and Austin Butler possibly being involved, though those rumors are still pretty uncertain.
While filming for Heat 2 might not start exactly as planned in August 2026, the movie is much closer to being made than it was before. After being discussed since 2023, it’s not a matter of if it will happen, but when.
