Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, is responding to speculation that Johnny Depp might be replaced by an actor playing Jack Sparrow’s son in the next movie. Bruckheimer says Depp is welcome to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 if he chooses to.
When asked if the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise might move on without Jack Sparrow or Johnny Depp, Bruckheimer firmly denied the idea. He stated that, as far as he’s concerned, Depp will definitely be involved in future films.
This doesn’t completely disprove what the report said. The report proposed that Johnny Depp might be finished with the role, but also allowed for the possibility of him passing the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow character on to his son, allowing the adventurous pirate legacy to continue.
While Bruckheimer’s comments don’t rule out future possibilities, they indicate no current intention to replace Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. It seems the decision of whether or not to continue in the role ultimately rests with Depp himself.
Johnny Depp May Return in Pirates of the Caribbean 6
A recent report suggested that Jack Sparrow’s son might be the main character in the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film. The report also stated that Krysty Wilson-Cairns will be writing the screenplay. Wilson-Cairns previously co-wrote a film with Sam Mendes.
The report didn’t say if the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie will continue the story hinted at in the end credits of 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. That scene featured Davy Jones, and the film concluded with Jack Sparrow once again in command of the Black Pearl.
