In this Super Bowl commercial for Dunkin’, Jeremy Strong intentionally stuck his head into a vat of coffee beans. This wasn’t something that just happened; he planned it. Interestingly enough, he also came up with the idea for the stunt. During Ben Affleck’s latest Super Bowl commercial, which featured Affleck, his brother, and Starbucks stand-ins, Strong made a memorable appearance by portraying himself as an actor who literally dived into coffee to grasp its essence for the advertisement. This unusual scene was quite a spectacle during the highly anticipated event in America. Given the unexpected nature of the image, it’s not surprising that Strong himself thought up the idea. As he told Vanity Fair, “I got a call saying that Ben Affleck was doing this Dunkin’ commercial, and would I consider doing it?… I said, ‘I can’t do that.’
Instead, he found himself drawn to the character portrayed by Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now. As Strong explained, “I let the idea run wild and Ben was incredible, both amazing and receptive to all my ideas. I wouldn’t do a commercial unless I could control it myself, unless it could be genuinely funny, creative, and downright disturbing – gross, unsettling, even nightmarish.” Mission completed, but we can add more adjectives to emphasize the intensity: for example, over-the-top, intense, and haunting.
