Jennifer Lawrence’s House at the End of the Street: 13-Year Streaming Resurgence

Jennifer Lawrence’s horror film, House at the End of the Street, is unexpectedly popular again, gaining attention on Paramount+ over ten years after it first came out.

After 13 years, the movie is popular again on streaming services. It’s currently number nine on the charts and is expected to become even more popular as Halloween nears.

Mark Tonderai’s House at the End of the Street tells the story of Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence) and her mother, Sarah (Elisabeth Shue), who move to a peaceful small town hoping for a new beginning. However, their hopes are shattered when they discover their house is connected to a terrible tragedy, and their reclusive neighbor holds a dark secret.

The film opened in theaters during a busy weekend, competing directly with the action movie End of Watch, starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Although End of Watch slightly edged it out with $13.2 million in ticket sales, the thriller starring Lawrence still performed well, earning $12.3 million during its opening weekend.

Although the movie was a hit with audiences, critics didn’t like it, giving it a very low 10% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Some called it “shockingly uneventful” and “aggressively average.” However, it’s become popular with casual horror fans who enjoy a straightforward, spooky, and easy-to-follow film, especially around Halloween.

Before becoming a major star with films like The Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook, and Passengers, Jennifer Lawrence appeared in House at the End of the Street. She’s now one of Hollywood’s most reliable leading actresses, and her movies have earned over $6 billion around the world.

Elizabeth Shue joins Jenna Lawrence in the movie, playing her mother. Shue is a well-known actress with roles in films like Back to the Future Part II, Adventures in Babysitting, and Cocktail, bringing a lot of experience to the cast.

Though House at the End of the Street didn’t receive much praise when it first came out, it’s recently become popular on streaming services. This shows that some movies connect with viewers later on, particularly around October when people enjoy nostalgic content, and when a well-known actor like Jennifer Lawrence is in the cast.
