It’s been confirmed that Peacock is developing a television series based on Elin Hilderbrand’s book “The Five-Star Weekend,” with Jennifer Garner set to take the lead role, according to our sources.
The project was initially announced that it was being developed at Peacock in the month of April 2024, which was a part of Sue Naegle and Ali Krug’s broader agreement (under their Dinner Party Productions label) with UCP.
The official description of the series states:
Title character Hollis Shaw (Garner), a well-respected food influencer with a reputation for mouthwatering dishes, impeccable taste, and a friendly disposition, experiences a heartrending tragedy. Struggling to continue, this event begins to reveal the stress lines in Hollis’s seemingly flawless existence – her tense marriage, her complex bond with her daughter, and her escalating need for approval from her audience. In an attempt to conquer grief and rediscover herself, Hollis dreams up a getaway weekend at her Nantucket home with three friends spanning various chapters of her life: one from childhood, another from her twenties, a third from her thirties, and a surprising fifth. Against the backdrop of opulence and coastal beauty, they will all grow in ways they could never anticipate as barriers are tested and secrets unfold.

Hollis Shaw (Garner), a widely recognized food influencer known for her scrumptious recipes, refined taste, and approachable personality, suffers an overwhelming loss. Finding it hard to progress, this incident starts to expose the weaknesses in Hollis’s seemingly perfect life – her strained relationship with her husband, her complicated dynamics with her daughter, and her increasing craving for validation from her followers. In a bid to cope with grief and rediscover herself, Hollis devises a weekend retreat at her Nantucket residence with three friends representing distinct stages of her life: one from her childhood, another from her twenties, a third from her thirties, and an unexpected fifth. Surrounded by lavishness and coastal charm, they will all evolve in ways they could never foresee as boundaries are breached and secrets are revealed.
Bekah Brunstetter, known for her work on “Maid” and “This Is Us,” takes on the roles of creator, writer, and executive producer in “The Five-Star Weekend.” Beth Schacter, recognized from “Billions” and “Super Pumped,” also contributes as a writer and executive producer. Garner will not only star but also produce as an executive. Naegle and Krug will executive produce through Dinner Party, with Hilderbrand also joining the team as an executive producer. UCP is the production studio.
For the second time, one of Hilderbrand’s novels is being transformed for television. Earlier, Netflix created a successful miniseries based on “The Perfect Couple,” which featured Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, and Dakota Fanning. This series premiered in September 2024 and remained on the Netflix English-language TV top 10 chart for six consecutive weeks.
Previously, Jennifer Garner garnered four Emmy nominations for best actress in a drama series for her lead role in the popular ABC show “Alias.” At present, she stars in the Apple TV+ series “The Last Thing He Told Me,” which is gearing up for its second installment. Recently, you can also find her in the revival of “Party Down” on Starz and “Camping” on HBO. In movies, Jennifer Garner has made a name for herself with roles in films like “Dallas Buyers Club,” “Love, Simon,” and “13 Going on 30.” She will reappear as Elektra Natchios, whom she played in both the 2003 film “Daredevil” and the standalone movie “Elektra,” in the upcoming 2024 blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine.
Garner is repped Linden Entertainment, CAA, The Lede Company, and Sloane Offer.
