Warn your grandparents: Jen Shah, formerly of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, has been released from prison. She served nearly three years for a nationwide scam that targeted elderly people. She’s currently either home on confinement or staying at a halfway house, but officials aren’t releasing her exact location for privacy.
In July 2022, Shah admitted to laundering money and initially received a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence. However, she served less than half of that time thanks to good behavior, participation in prison programs – including a fitness class she led – and payments she started making to those she harmed, according to People magazine. She was required to pay a total of $6.5 million to her victims.
With Jen Shah now released from prison, the big question is whether she’ll return to The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City to pay back her restitution – the show is a major hit for Bravo. However, Andy Cohen, the show’s producer, stated on his radio show in December that she won’t be coming back, wishing her well but saying he won’t be involved in any future projects with her. Frances Berwick, a Bravo executive, offered a slightly more nuanced view in an interview, saying that Shah demonstrating genuine accountability is what matters most, though she admitted she doesn’t know if Shah will actually do that. Shah did, however, plead guilty to the charges.
