Many consider *Survivor* to be one of the greatest reality TV shows ever made, and it continues to be a hit on CBS and Paramount+. Recently, host Jeff Probst discussed the possibility of a season featuring only older contestants, inspired by the success of *The Golden Bachelor*. However, I don’t necessarily share his opinion on the idea.
People are curious about how much money players on *Survivor* earn, but many are also excited about what future seasons might hold. Jeff Probst recently discussed a potential ‘Golden’ season – featuring returning all-stars – on his podcast, *On Fire with Jeff Probst*. He admitted the idea has been floated around, but explained why he believes it wouldn’t be successful.
Here’s my take on this: If we only considered applicants age 50 and over—and realistically, we’d probably find around 40 people who are both interesting and physically capable enough for the show—it would be hard to cast two seasons a year. I don’t think it’s feasible, to be honest.
The numbers support this idea, but I don’t believe *Survivor* fans only want to see seasons with legendary players. So, if CBS decided to do a season like this just once, it should be doable to find 18 (plus alternates) players over 50 years old. It would be really interesting to see how a group of older players would approach the game without the usual pressure of being the oldest or weakest alliance.
The most memorable seasons of *Survivor* each offered something new, and a season featuring a cast of players all over 50 could really shake up the strategy. I’d love to see CBS try a ‘Golden’ season with that concept.

You can stream the complete collection of *Survivor* on Paramount+, which costs as little as $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year. They offer two plans: an Essential plan for $7.99/month and a Premium, ad-free plan for $12.99/month. See the deal here.
Many dedicated viewers of *Survivor* remember that older players, especially women, are frequently targeted and voted out quickly. A season focused on older contestants could change this pattern and add interesting new dynamics to how players interact. However, host Jeff Probst recently shared why he doesn’t fully support this idea, stating:
I enjoy seeing the complicated dynamic between characters like Rizo and Nate – that’s a big part of what makes the show fun. Similarly, I think it’s important to have a mix of genders; an all-male or all-female cast wouldn’t be as interesting. The show thrives on the contrast, teamwork, surprising alliances, and the way the characters learn from each other – that’s really at the heart of our format.
I agree with that point. *Survivor* usually brings together people from all walks of life – different ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds – to compete. So, a season focused on a single age group would be a departure from the show’s usual format. However, I think it would be interesting to see what happens if older players weren’t the minority for once, even if just for one season.
Fans hoping for a season of *Survivor* featuring returning Golden Age players are likely to be disappointed, as Jeff Probst, the show’s host and executive producer, doesn’t seem enthusiastic about the idea. Given his significant influence over the show, it’s unlikely to happen. He explained this in a recent podcast interview:
This is my way of saying don’t wait on Golden Survivor. Apply now to be on this Survivor.
You’ve got a point. It doesn’t seem like we’ll be seeing this particular group of contestants on *Survivor* anytime soon. The show will likely continue to prioritize having a diverse cast.
Season 49 of Survivor premieres Wednesdays on CBS as part of the 2025 television lineup. Although a special ‘Golden’ season isn’t happening this time, fans are excited for Season 50, which will feature returning players – and two of those players are actually competing right now on the current season.
