Marvel is releasing a special one-shot comic called Jay & Silent Bob: Jays of Future Past, written by Kevin Smith and illustrated by Giuseppe Camuncoli. The story follows Jay and Silent Bob as they travel through the Marvel Universe, encountering popular heroes like the X-Men and Fantastic Four. Their arrival isn’t welcomed by everyone, as Doctor Doom orders their elimination. This leads to a huge team-up of Avengers and other heroes who must protect Jay and Silent Bob from a bizarre threat: being bored to death by superheroes!
The first issue of ‘Jay & Silent Bob: Jays of Future Past’ will be available in comic book stores on June 10th. This release is a dream come true for director Kevin Smith, whose films like ‘Mallrats’ and ‘Clerks’ often celebrated comic book culture. The idea for this comic actually began back in 1995 while filming ‘Mallrats,’ when Smith saw Stan Lee filming a cameo appearance.
Kevin Smith has long dreamed of a comic book crossover featuring Jay and Silent Bob meeting Marvel heroes. He revealed that the idea originated during the filming of Mallrats with the first on-screen mention of Wolverine, and he even pitched the concept to Stan Lee himself on the set of the movie in 1995.
After years of wanting to make it happen, Kevin Smith’s vision for Jay & Silent Bob: Jays of Future Past is now a reality. He calls the film a fun tribute to both the excitement of Marvel movies and the idea that childhood dreams can come true. The project is special for Smith because it lets him combine his signature goofy humor with the superhero stories he’s always enjoyed.
