A year after its release, the action movie starring Jason Statham and directed by David Ayer has become a surprising success on streaming platforms. The film, released in 2025, was intended as a successor to the Taken franchise and was co-written by Ayer and Sylvester Stallone, drawing inspiration from Chuck Dixon’s novel, Levon’s Trade.
Okay, so I was checking out FlixPatrol, and it looks like A Working Man is having a moment! It’s actually climbed back into the top 3 movies worldwide on Prime Video right now. That’s pretty impressive, beating out titles like Follow My Voice, The Accountant 2, and even Red One. Here in the States, as of January 7th, it’s sitting at number 8 on Prime Video’s movie charts. Definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it!
The 2025 action thriller, A Working Man, was a financial success, earning $98 million at the box office despite a $40 million production budget. Audiences loved it, giving it an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, critics were much less impressed, with the film receiving a “rotten” 47% score based on reviews from over 160 critics.
The film A Working Man centers around Levon Cade, a former soldier who now works in construction. When his boss’s daughter is kidnapped, Cade is compelled to take action. The cast also includes Michael Peña, known for his role in All Her Fault, and a star from Stranger Things.
After the film A Working Man came out, director David Ayer mentioned in a past interview that it was inspired by the first book in a twelve-book series by the author Dixon.
A Sequel Could Happen in the Future
Director David Ayer has expressed interest in making a sequel to A Working Man. He noted that the film is based on one of twelve books written by the author, and that they successfully adapted the source material and the main character. Ayer believes there are still loose ends in the story that could be explored in another film, and he’s open to returning to the project, as he enjoyed working with the character.
Jason Statham has several exciting projects coming up. He’s planning a sequel to his 2024 action film, The Beekeeper, and will return as Deckard Shaw in the next Fast X installment. He’ll also star in a new movie called Shelter, directed by Ric Roman Waugh, alongside Bill Nighy (known for Pirates of the Caribbean) and Naomi Ackie (Mickey 17). Shelter is scheduled to hit theaters on January 30, 2026.
In 2026, Jason Statham will star in the film Mutiny, directed by Jean-François Richet. He’ll be joined by Annabelle Wallis, known for Silent Night, and Ramon Tikaram.
A Working Man is streaming on Prime Video.
