Jason Statham’s 92% Rated ‘John Wick’ Rip-off Lands New Streaming Home

Jason Statham consistently delivers exciting action movies that audiences love. You can always expect intense fight scenes and thrilling stunts when you watch one of his films. A recent 2024 release proved this, surprisingly exceeding expectations despite being very similar to the John Wick franchise.

The film, directed by David Ayer (known for Suicide Squad), centers on Adam Clay, a former hitman. After a loved one is killed by the son of a wealthy man, Clay comes out of retirement seeking revenge. It’s a story with echoes of the plot from Keanu Reeves’ popular action film – though without the canine companion!

Even though it shares similarities with the John Wick films, The Beekeeper is easily one of Jason Statham’s best. Audiences clearly enjoyed it, giving it a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – making it his third-highest rated movie after Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. Now, two years after its theatrical release, The Beekeeper is coming to Hulu on April 1st.

Jason Statham Learned How To Be An Actual Beekeeper

Interestingly, Jason Statham’s character in the movie is a real beekeeper, so he had to learn how to properly care for bees. Director David Ayer explained to Entertainment Weekly in 2024 that in the beginning of the film, you see Statham expertly removing honeycomb and using smoke to calm the hive, demonstrating all the necessary beekeeping techniques.

It’s amazing – he genuinely learned beekeeping. It’s surprising, because people usually see him as someone tough and aggressive, but he completely found peace and mindfulness in it – he really connected with the art of beekeeping.

Luckily, Statham was protected from stings, but the director wasn’t so fortunate. He explained that he was stung multiple times while filming close-ups of the bees, because he was wearing black socks. He discovered that bees see black fabric as a threat, like a bear, and will attack it.
