Jason Statham Action Sequel ‘The Beekeeper 2’ Adds MCU Star & More to the Hive

Okay, so everyone’s talking about The Beekeeper 2, and filming is really gaining momentum! It’s great to see they’re building out the supporting cast and bringing back some familiar faces. Of course, Jason Statham – “The Stath” as we affectionately call him – will be back as Adam Clay, protecting the hive once more as that enigmatic former assassin. And I’m happy to report that The Beekeeper 2 is in excellent hands with the director of Nobody 2 and The Shadow Strays. It’s shaping up to be a thrilling ride!

A recent report from Variety shares that, in addition to Jason Statham, the upcoming film will feature an actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a former WWE wrestler.
Zoe Saldaña, famous for her work in the Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers, and Mission: Impossible series, and Adam Copeland-a professional wrestler who has appeared in shows like Percy Jackson and the Olympians-will join Statham in the action-packed sequel.

Although specifics about their roles are still secret, most people believe Klementieff and Copeland will play other “Beekeepers” in the upcoming sequel, potentially either helping or opposing Statham. Klementieff is well-known for action films, having appeared in the MCU, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, and this year’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Copeland, with her background, easily fits the role of someone who could physically overpower Statham. This all points to a challenging time for the action star when The Beekeeper 2 is released.

The Beekeeper 2 is bringing back Emmy Raver-Lampman and Bobby Naderi as FBI agents Verona Parker and Matt Wiley. Lauren Perkins will reprise her role as Jessica Danforth, the (presumably no longer?) President of the United States. They’ll be joined by Jeremy Irons, who is returning to play the villain Wallace Westwyld. A new actor has also joined the cast: Black-ish and Peter Pan & Wendy star will appear in a currently secret role.

‘The Beekeeper 2’ Will Transform Jason Statham into Timo Tjahjanto’s Version of The Punisher

Amazon MGM Studios

Released last year, The Beekeeper was a big hit for Jason Statham, earning $152.7 million worldwide. It received positive reviews, with a 71% score from critics and an even more impressive 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Details about The Beekeeper 2 are still secret, but viewers are eager to see more of the skilled assassins featured in the first film.

After delivering intense action thrillers like The Night Comes for Us and The Shadow Strays, Timo Tjahjanto has made his Hollywood debut, directing the sequel Nobody 2 starring Bob Odenkirk. In an exclusive interview with MovieWeb’s George Edelman, the director discussed both Odenkirk and Jason Statham, noting that both films focus on older men who keep fighting even when they’re “worn out.”

Like many of Jason’s films, I really enjoy this one. We’re telling the story of a character, similar to Bob, and Jason Statham is portraying someone who’s aware of getting older. I’m particularly drawn to characters who keep going, no matter how much they’ve been challenged or worn down, you know?

Tjahjanto has hinted that The Beekeeper 2 will give him the chance to fulfill a long-held ambition: to portray a particular Marvel vigilante. He plans to develop Jason Statham’s character, Adam Clay, into his take on The Punisher. He shared his vision with ScreenRant

I’m really interested in the Beekeeper series because watching it reminded me a lot of Jason Statham playing a character similar to The Punisher, who is one of my favorites from the Marvel Universe.

If I’m unable to get The Punisher movie made, if things just aren’t lining up for that project right now, then I’ll focus on turning Adam Clay into my take on The Punisher. That’s fantastic! I believe Statham possesses that same quality. He has a very reserved and Frank Castle-like demeanor. Plus, I really like that Adam Clay is incredibly imaginative and inventive when it comes to violence. He’s truly creative with how he approaches it.
