I’ve always been a huge Jason Bateman fan! He’s just so versatile – you know, from the hilarious Arrested Development to more serious roles and even voice work like Nick Wilde in Zootopia. But honestly, I think his movie Game Night from 2018 is seriously underrated. It’s a really funny action-comedy, and I’m glad it’s finally getting the attention it deserves now that it’s found a bigger audience on streaming.
According to FlixPatrol, the movie Game Night is popular again on HBO Max, currently ranking as the 7th most-watched film in the U.S. This action-comedy-mystery is seeing a boost in viewers as Jason Bateman is currently starring in a new project.
I really enjoyed seeing Game Night when it came out on February 23, 2018! It had such a great cast – Jason Bateman was fantastic, but it also featured Rachel McAdams, Kyle Chandler, and a ton of other talented actors like Billy Magnussen and Sharon Horgan. I was especially impressed with Jesse Plemons, who even got nominated for an award for his role!
What Is Game Night About?
The story quickly becomes a murder mystery, centering around Max and Annie—played by Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams—a couple who love trivia and board games. They host regular game nights with friends, but one night, Max’s brother, Brooks, takes over and plans an unusual game night that takes an unexpected turn.
Max and Brooks have a difficult relationship. Max often feels overshadowed by his brother, Brooks, who seems to have everything going for him. When Brooks decides to change their usual game night, it creates more tension between them. To make things even more competitive, Brooks suggests they play a murder mystery game, with the prize being his Corvette.
You know, even though Game Night did really well in theaters, it doesn’t always come up when people talk about Jason Bateman’s best work, which is a shame! It’s seriously funny, full of action, and honestly, it’s the perfect weekend watch. Plus, it wasn’t just I who loved it – critics really liked it too!
Game Night Has an Impressive Rotten Tomatoes Score
The movie Game Night has received positive reviews, earning an 85% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. J.R. Jones of the Chicago Reader praised the film’s well-executed humor and satisfying ending, while Ed Potton of The Times (UK) described it as clever, funny, and enjoyable.
With its popularity continuing on streaming services years after its release, Game Night is a great candidate for a sequel. A follow-up film could build on the original while bringing the characters back together for another wild game night.
Game Night is available to stream on HBO Max.
