Okay, so I’m really excited about the new Masters of the Universe movie! They’ve been sharing some tidbits about Jared Leto as Skeletor, and honestly, it sounds pretty cool. This is the second time they’ve brought the story to life in a live-action film – the first one with Dolph Lundgren was a classic! Basically, it’s the usual He-Man story: he and his friends have to team up and fight Skeletor to save their planet, Eternia. It’s hitting theaters later this year, and I can’t wait!
New details about Jared Leto’s Skeletor in Masters of the Universe revealed
While visiting DNEG in London to oversee post-production on Masters of the Universe, Travis Knight showed Empire Magazine some early footage of Jared Leto as Skeletor. According to the magazine (and He-Mania), Leto performed in a blue muscle suit, and his face was later digitally transformed into a skull using computer-generated imagery.
The publication also shared details about Jared Leto’s voice for the character. It won’t sound like the classic, nasal voice of the original Skeletor (Alan Oppenheimer), nor will it sound like Leto’s normal speaking voice. Instead, it’s described as a dry, almost Shakespearean tone.
In an interview with Empire, Knight explained that he was looking for an actor who could bring something new to the role of Skeletor, noting the character’s unique voice. He said Jared Leto reached out to them because he’s a long-time fan and wanted to fully commit to the part.
Knight explained he collaborated with Leto to create a performance he felt good about. He also revealed that Skeletor will be depicted as the ultimate example of harmful masculine traits in the film.
The movie Masters of the Universe will hit theaters on June 5, 2026. It was directed by Knight and written by Aaron and Adam Nee, Chris Butler, and David Callaham. Aaron and Adam Nee also created the story alongside Alex Litvak and Michael Finch. In the US and Canada, Amazon MGM Studios will release the film, while Sony Pictures Releasing will handle distribution in other countries.
Nicholas Galitzine stars as He-Man in the film, with a supporting cast featuring Leto, Camila Mendes, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, and Idris Elba.
