A Japanese company that makes bathroom fixtures has invented a hands-free bathing system for hotels – it essentially washes guests without them having to do anything at all.
Imagine a future straight from a science fiction film: soon, hotel guests in Japan won’t need showers or baths. Instead, they’ll be able to use a machine – often compared to a dishwasher – to get completely clean automatically.
A Japanese bathroom company called Science, based in Osaka, has invented a unique pod called the Mirai Ningen Sentakki. This translates to ‘Future Human Washing Machine’ in English, and it’s a surprisingly accurate description of what it does.
Once inside the pod and lying down, users just lower the lid and enjoy calming videos while the pod fills with warm, bubbly water. These tiny bubbles gently clean away sweat and dirt.
After the soap is rinsed off with water, the tub drains. You can also add a hair wash to your session. Science claims this uses special water flow and tiny bubbles to gently clean and address your skin’s specific needs, essentially washing your head and upper body automatically.

‘Human Washing Machine’ coming to Japanese hotels
According to Japanese news source Sanken, the pod includes sensors that track users’ heart rates and nervous system responses. This data helps researchers understand how people react to the experience, specifically measuring things like relaxation and stress. Associate Professor Teruo Kanki of Osaka University’s Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research is leading this aspect of the project.
Early reviews of the futuristic pod have been very positive. A survey conducted in mid-2025 revealed that 77.6% of users were “very satisfied” with the Mirai Ningen Sentakki, and another 21.1% reported being “satisfied.”
This futuristic device isn’t available for consumers yet. Only a single prototype has been shown to the public, at the Osaka Expo this year. Despite this, several Japanese hotels are considering adding these pods to their rooms.
Originally, the creators didn’t intend to sell their pod, but they’ve since received orders for six units. These pods will be installed in places like day spas, gyms, bathhouses, and even some hotels.
Okay, so Japan is doing it again – blowing everyone’s minds with futuristic tech! Just this year, I saw a video of this hotel completely run by robots that went viral. Apparently, it’s a whole chain of hotels, and get this – some of them even have animatronic dinosaurs working there! Seriously, dinosaurs! It’s wild.
