A unique cruise in Japan lets passengers live out their zombie-themed nightmares on the open water.
Obaken, the creators of popular haunted houses and escape rooms, are launching a new two-hour survival horror event called “Obaken Zombie Ship -No Escape-”. It will take place on a real ferry out at sea.
This unique event in Japan is the first of its kind, letting participants experience a cruise ship overtaken by a zombie outbreak.
This experience has several ticket choices, and each one includes an all-you-can-eat nigiri sushi dinner at Tairyo Market inside S-Pulse Dream Plaza.
Obaken Zombie Ship offering a horror ride on a cruise ship
The company hasn’t shared many details about what to expect, but they offered a small clue in a recent post on X.
Starting February 12th at 6 PM, reservations open for the Shimizu Port Zombie Ship Cruise – OBAKEN ZOMBIE SHIP – NO ESCAPE! Experience the ultimate in real-life horror on the high seas! Planning, production, and direction are by ‘Obaken Haunted House’ in Honancho.

Okay, so I heard about this new cruise, and apparently, it’s designed to be totally unpredictable – they’re saying you have no idea what’s going to happen during the two-hour trip! Knowing the theme, I’m guessing there’ll be some kind of outbreak scenario, maybe with people acting like zombies or something. It sounds like they’re planning challenges similar to what you’d find in an escape room – a lot of trying to survive, I imagine.
The horror experience itself takes place on March 8, 2026, at the Shimizu Port Terminal.
Even though the event lasts just one day, there are two sailing options available. The first sets off between 4 PM and 6 PM, with check-in starting at 3:40 PM. The second sailing is from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and check-in begins at 6:10 PM.
You can now buy tickets for the ship on their website, and they offer three different meal options.
The first two course options cost 29,300 yen (about $191 USD) and are nearly identical. Both include a round-trip Shinkansen ticket, express train service, shuttle bus transportation, and an all-you-can-eat nigiri sushi dinner with a 50-minute time limit.
The two options differ only in their departure times – one leaves at 4 PM, and the other leaves later. If you’re looking for a more affordable choice, a third option is available for 21,300 yen, which is approximately $139 USD.
This package still lets you enjoy the cruise and sushi dinner, but you’ll need to arrange your own transportation to get there. It’s only available for the 4:00 PM cruise departure.
