Though James Gunn’s new DC Universe doesn’t have an official Justice League team yet, the movie Superman laid the groundwork for one. The film focused mainly on Clark Kent’s (David Corenswet) story, but it also showed several other heroes and people with superpowers, suggesting a world already full of them. Gunn has said his DCU won’t spend a lot of time on origin stories, as superpowered people have existed on Earth for centuries.
The movie Superman introduces a team of heroes called the Justice Gang, funded by Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn). The team includes Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi). While not yet the Justice League, they assist Superman in saving the city from destruction caused by Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult).
James Gunn recently clarified some changes to the first season of Peacemaker on Threads. He explained that Superman and Supergirl (played by Milly Alcock) frequently join forces with the Justice Gang, creating a team of their own, but they don’t take orders from Amanda Waller.
After the stories in Lanterns, Supergirl, and Man of Tomorrow, many fans believe these heroes are likely candidates to become members of the Justice League in DC’s new universe. DC Studios is also reportedly focusing on adding Batman and Wonder Woman to the team.
Justice League Heroes, Ranked By Power Level
5. Hawkgirl

Xolo Maridueña’s Hawkgirl quickly established herself as a powerful force in James Gunn’s DC Universe, memorably ending the life of Vasil Ghurkos in Superman. She delivered a chilling line as she did so, stating she differs from Superman.
Hawkgirl is a powerful fighter with incredible strength, speed, and resilience, and she can fly very quickly. Although she might not be the strongest member of the team, her abilities make her a valuable asset.
She’s a formidable close-combat fighter, primarily using a mace that can defeat groups of soldiers and even harm incredibly powerful creatures like the Kaiju. While her ability to reincarnate suggests a hidden history, as seen in Superman, she’s already demonstrated her strength and doesn’t need a do-over to be effective.
4. Mr. Terrific

Though not as physically strong as his fellow heroes, Mr. Terrific compensates with his brilliant mind and advanced technology – he’s a bit like Iron Man.
Okay, so this guy’s T-Spheres are seriously cool. They’re not just weapons – they’re like these super-advanced tools he uses for everything. He can blast things, obviously, but also scan environments, hack systems, and even take out threats from the inside! We saw a quick glimpse of how dominant he is when he easily took down Lex’s Raptors – it really showed just how unstoppable he can be against your average bad guys.
Okay, so Mr. Terrific isn’t physically on par with someone like Hawkgirl, but trust me, his tech more than makes up for it. He can absolutely hang with the big guns, and even surpass them. I mean, the guy single-handedly cracked Lex Luthor’s Pocket Universe – a seriously dangerous piece of tech! And he did it with this attitude, basically saying, “I’ve got this, I’m Mr. Terrific!” It was a fantastic moment, really showing off his brilliance and confidence.
3. Green Lantern

Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern is a hugely powerful hero in the DC Universe. His power ring grants him incredible abilities like flying, shooting energy, and building anything he can imagine – all fueled by his willpower.
In Superman, Nathan Fillion’s character demonstrated impressive resourcefulness by defeating a massive monster using only oven mitts. He even cleverly created a device during the fight to restrain the creature and save Mister Terrific.
Green Lanterns are consistently shown as some of the strongest heroes in DC Comics, and the upcoming series Lanterns will showcase that power. The show will feature Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, and John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre.
2. Supergirl

Even though Supergirl had a short appearance in the Superman movie, it showed how incredibly powerful she is within the DC Universe.
Similar to her cousin, Kara has incredible strength, speed, the ability to fly, and is almost invulnerable thanks to her Kryptonian biology and Earth’s yellow sun.
Despite only appearing briefly on screen, Supergirl demonstrated impressive toughness, easily withstanding strong hits from her dog, Krypto. Her upcoming solo movie, Supergirl (previously titled Woman of Tomorrow), will give audiences a much clearer picture of her powers and what she’s truly capable of.
If Kara embraces the strength shown in her comic book origins, she could become almost as powerful as Superman, establishing her as a top-tier hero in the DC Universe and a key member of the team James Gunn is assembling.
1. Superman

Because of his alien biology, Superman has incredible strength, speed, and can withstand almost any injury under Earth’s sun. This lets him fight giant monsters and survive in incredibly dangerous places, like outer space and even black holes.
I’ve noticed that James Gunn’s Superman feels a little more…human than we’ve seen before. He’s incredibly powerful, don’t get me wrong, but it doesn’t feel like he can do anything. It’s a refreshing change, really. Gunn seems to be focusing on making him relatable and telling a grounded story, rather than portraying him as an all-powerful god.
Without Kryptonite weakening him, Superman is arguably the most powerful and well-rounded hero in the DC Universe, possessing a unique blend of strength, skill, and compassion – with his empathy being his most notable trait.
