As a DC fan, I’m really excited about how things are shaping up for 2025, especially after how well James Gunn’s Superman did! It was great to see Christopher Smith, Peacemaker, back this summer too. Finally, Chapter 1 of the DCU, “Gods and Monsters,” has clarified how his show fits into the bigger picture of the new universe.
The final episode of Peacemaker season 2 aired on October 9, 2025, and proved to be a success for DC Studios. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the HBO Max series appeared on Nielsen’s streaming charts, ranking among the Top 10 Original Series for the week of October 6-12, 2025. The show stars John Cena.

Felipe Rangel’s review of the Peacemaker season finale on ScreenRant called it somewhat uneven, but optimistic about the future of James Gunn’s DC Universe. The season currently has a 94% rating from critics and a 78% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
James Gunn recently told Deadline that there aren’t currently any plans for a third season of Peacemaker. While he didn’t rule out the possibility of more seasons in the future, he explained that the focus right now is on the broader DC Universe and how Peacemaker will fit into its future. He emphasized that Peacemaker is a significant character for the DCU going forward.

Although Peacemaker might not get another season, the characters could reappear in other projects within the DC universe. Currently in development is a TV series centered around Viola Davis’s character, Amanda Waller, being created by Jeremy Carver and Christal Henry.
It’s currently unclear if any characters from Peacemaker will appear in James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow, with filming scheduled to start in 2026. However, the way season 2 of Peacemaker ended suggests several storylines could continue in the next installment, planned for release in 2027.
The DC Universe’s next project will be Lanterns, a new series coming to HBO. Warner Bros. has announced it’s aiming for a premiere in early 2026. On the big screen, Supergirl is scheduled to release on June 26, 2026, and Clayface will follow on September 11.
