DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn recently shared news about a potential movie featuring a team-up of DC’s most famous villains. Gunn is starting to reveal the projects planned for the first phase of his vision – called Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters – which aims to refresh the DC Universe for modern viewers. In addition to typical superhero films, Gunn is also prioritizing movies that center around well-known DC villains.
Screenwriter Matthew Orton has turned in the initial draft of the script for the DC Studios’ forthcoming Deathstroke/Bane movie to co-CEO James Gunn. The project remains largely a secret, with story details being carefully guarded. Understandably, the possibility of seeing these two iconic Batman foes team up has fans eagerly awaiting further news from DC Studios. Naturally, anticipation is high.
As reported by The Outside Scoop, citing insider Umberto Gonzalez of The Wrap, James Gunn now has the script for this film to look over. This is a new step forward for DC Studios:
They’ve recently received a script for a project, and I’m excited about it. My top picks – my favorite DC villain, Deathstroke, and my favorite anti-hero, Bane – are featured in it. The script has been submitted, and I’ll be including that information in my report. So, you’re getting a bit of an exclusive here.
It’s important to remember that the movie hasn’t been officially approved yet. James Gunn mentioned in September 2024 that no projects would be given the go-ahead until a script was completed, meaning the Deathstroke/Bane crossover movie might still be some time away from starting production.
Currently, Batman and related characters are becoming popular again, with both the ‘Gods and Monsters’ storyline from DC Studios and their ‘Elseworlds’ tales gaining traction. Besides the planned Deathstroke/Bane movie, The Brave and the Bold is in the initial phases of development, as is a standalone Clayface film starring Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie. Director Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson are also getting ready to film The Batman – Part II in early 2026, with a planned release date of October 1, 2027.
Why New Deathstroke/Bane Crossover Movie Should Be Exciting
It’s tough to guess what this new movie will be like, as we don’t have much information about the story or cast. It’s one of more than six team-up movies currently in development for the DC Universe (including Man of Tomorrow, Teen Titans, The Authority, and Lanterns>), and it promises an adventure that hasn’t been seen in live-action before.
Here’s another interesting fact about this movie: it was written by Matthew Orton, who’s already had some success with comic book adaptations. Although he doesn’t have a long list of credits yet, he wrote Episode 5 of Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight. That episode delved into Marc Spector’s difficult history and is considered the best of the series starring Oscar Isaac, according to fans of the MCU.
Currently, fans are eagerly awaiting news about the expanding Bat-Verse within the Gods and Monsters lineup. Projects like The Brave and the Bold, Clayface, and this particular film are still largely shrouded in secrecy. However, Man of Tomorrow is gaining momentum, and it appears the cast is growing rapidly.
With Peacemaker Season 2 now out and several important DC projects planned for 2026, this part of DC Studios’ overall plan should have enough time to develop and successfully breathe new life into the Batman story.
