James Gunn’s DC Universe Has A Justice League Problem
Despite mixed reactions to many DC movies, fans generally liked the actors in the Justice League film. This became evident when Henry Cavill was replaced as Superman by David Corenswet. Although Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman was well-received, Cavill’s departure caused significant debate among fans. It appears that none of the actors who played the Justice League in the DCEU will reprise their roles in the new DCU. That’s why the decision to bring back Jason Momoa, who played Aquaman, in the 2026 Supergirl movie is a smart move. It shows James Gunn is willing to work with actors from the previous Justice League films.
Supergirl’s introduction connects the DC Universe and its previous iterations. Importantly, this allows Jason Momoa to move from playing Aquaman to a role that might be a better fit: Lobo, the DC Universe’s tough, intergalactic bounty hunter. This casting choice suggests DC doesn’t plan to recast the Justice League heroes and that the original actors will continue in their roles.
