While a merger between Warner Bros. and Paramount is still up in the air, the heads of Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios are expected to remain in their positions.
Would Paramount keep James Gunn and Peter Safran as heads of DC Studios if they bought Warner Bros.?
A new Bloomberg report says David Ellison, the CEO of Paramount Skydance, intends to maintain the creative teams at both studios. This information has been supported by YouTuber John Campea, who confirmed that James Gunn and Peter Safran will continue leading DC Studios as co-heads.
On his recent show, John Campea shared that he spoke with sources at Paramount about Warner Bros. Discovery’s plans. He specifically asked if the leadership of Michael De Luca, Pamela Abdy, James Gunn, and Peter Safran would be staying in their roles, referencing a Bloomberg article. According to Campea, Paramount confirmed that they would.
Whether Paramount will be able to buy Warner Bros. is still uncertain, especially since Warner Bros. recently turned down their third offer. However, it’s understandable that Ellison wouldn’t want to change the leadership of Warner Bros.’ film division, as the studio has had a very successful year at the box office with several chart-topping movies.
Warner Bros. achieved a historic milestone by having seven consecutive movies each open with over $40 million domestically. These films included hits like “A Minecraft Movie” ($162.8 million), “Sinners” ($48 million), “Final Destination: Bloodlines” ($51.6 million), “F1” ($57 million), “Superman” ($125 million), “Weapons” ($43.5 million), and “The Conjuring: Last Rites” ($84 million). This string of successes made Warner Bros. the first studio to reach $4 billion in worldwide box office revenue this year.
DC Studios’ next film will be ‘Supergirl,’ starring Milly Alcock. The movie is based on the 2022 comic series ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ and tells the story of 21-year-old Kara Zor-El. She journeys across the galaxy with her dog, Krypto, and teams up with a young girl named Ruthye to seek revenge in a thrilling adventure.
Supergirl will be released in theaters on June 26, 2026.
