James Gunn Talks Creative Process for Man of Tomorrow as DCU Movie Nears Production

James Gunn is sharing details about how he’s developing the upcoming DC Universe movie, as production gets closer.

As a huge DC fan, I’m so excited to hear that James Gunn is already planning the next chapter in the DC Universe! Apparently, ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ the follow-up to the upcoming ‘Superman’ movie from 2025, is slated for release in 2027. Even better, David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are both set to return as Superman and Lex Luthor, which I think is fantastic casting. I can’t wait to see what Gunn has in store for us!

What did James Gunn say about Man of Tomorrow?

Someone on Threads asked James Gunn about how he makes movies. They wanted to know how many times he typically films a scene and when he shares the script with the rest of the film crew – right after the first version, or only when it’s completely finished.

Gunn explained that he’s comfortable with any number of takes, from just one to sixty, depending on what a scene needs. He typically aims for around three or four takes. The script goes through several revisions, with producers and friends providing feedback, usually reaching its third major rewrite by the time they start filming ‘MoT’.

Filming for ‘Man of Tomorrow’ is scheduled to start this spring, so James Gunn and his team are currently deep in the planning stages. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult will star, alongside Lars Eidinger who will play Brainiac.

Details about the movie’s story are still largely a secret, but we know Superman and Lex Luthor will team up to defeat a powerful new enemy, likely Brainiac.

The new movie, “Man of Tomorrow,” will be released on July 9, 2027. You can currently watch the original Superman movie on HBO Max. Plus, a TV show focusing on Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo, is also being developed.
