In 2025, Superman returned to the big screen with David Corenswet playing the iconic hero in James Gunn‘s new DC Universe. The film, part of the DCU’s first chapter, “Gods and Monsters,” became the year’s most successful superhero movie.
Even though Superman came out in theaters almost five months ago, director James Gunn is still sharing behind-the-scenes content. He recently posted a new CGI test clip of Krypto the Superdog on X (formerly Twitter). You can see it below!
Gunn shared a first look at Ozu as Krypto, showing him playfully interacting with his cat. He also pointed out that the footage was created using computer graphics (CG), and isn’t the same as artificial intelligence (AI), asking people to stop referring to it as such.
I was so impressed by the visual effects in the new DCU film! It’s amazing that three of the biggest names in the industry – Framestore, Wētā FX, and Industrial Light & Magic – all came together to create Krypto. Warner Bros. is really pushing Superman for awards consideration, and honestly, the VFX work absolutely deserves it!
The DC Studios film earned $616 million globally, surpassing the box office results of every Marvel Studios movie released in 2025. Despite this, The Fantastic Four: First Steps was Marvel’s most successful film of the year, bringing in $521.8 million worldwide.
I’m really excited to hear David Corenswet is coming back as Superman! James Gunn wrote a sequel, which he’s also directing – they’re calling it Man of Tomorrow. Apparently, this next film, slated for 2027, will finally pit Superman against Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, which I think is a fantastic casting choice. And great news for fans of Lois Lane – Rachel Brosnahan will be reprising her role after first appearing in 2025. I can’t wait to see it all unfold!
As a huge Superman fan, I’m excited that the latest movie is finally available to watch at home, both on disc and streaming! And get this – they’ve announced a brand new Superman film is hitting theaters on July 9, 2027! I’ve already marked my calendar!
