James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, recently shared an enthusiastic post about the upcoming Batman series, Bat-Fam, coming to Amazon Prime Video. Though the DC Universe’s live-action Batman hasn’t been introduced yet, Bat-Fam is a separate animated story focusing on the Bat-Family – Bruce Wayne, his son Damian, and Alfred Pennyworth – as they adjust to a new life at Wayne Manor.
The new show, Bat-Fam, takes a fresh approach to the Batman universe. Unlike most stories, it doesn’t center around traditional heroes like Nightwing and Batgirl. Instead, it features reformed villains – characters like Ra’s Al Ghul, Volcana, and Man-Bat – as part of Batman’s team. The series premiered on Prime Video on November 10, 2025, and is already gaining positive attention from both fans and James Gunn, who recently shared his excitement about it.
James Gunn, head of DC Studios, shared the official poster for Bat-Fam on X (formerly Twitter) to announce that all episodes are now available to stream on Prime Video. He wrote, “The newest animated series from DC, BAT-FAM is streaming now on Prime Video.”

James Gunn’s recent promotion of the Bat-Family series on social media is expected to generate more excitement for the show on Prime Video. This comes as DC fans eagerly await the live-action version of the Brave and the Bold planned for the DCU, which will be directed by Andy Muschietti.
Bat-Fam is a funny animated series created by Mike Roth and Jase Ricci. It continues the story from the movie Merry Little Batman and features a fantastic voice cast, including Luke Wilson, Yonas Kibreab, London Hughes, Bobby Moynihan, James Cromwell, and Haley Tju.
Why Bat-Fam Is More Important Than You Think

The upcoming animated series, Bat-Fam, is significant for DC fans as it’s the second animated show from DC Studios (following Creature Commandos on HBO Max). Though not officially part of the main DC Universe storyline, Bat-Fam gives viewers a first look at the relationship between Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne, a key dynamic that will be heavily featured in the upcoming film, The Brave and the Bold.
This series is the first full-length animated show based on the Elseworlds concept. While it continues the story from previous seasons of Harley Quinn, Beast Boy: Lone Wolf and Krypton Saves the Day are collections of shorter episodes.
The ‘Bat-Family’ series offers a chance to showcase some of Batman’s less famous enemies, like Killer Moth, Copperhead, and King Tut, giving them more screen time and letting fans learn about them alongside well-known villains like the Joker and Solomon Grundy. This approach could also help DC keep the momentum going with Batman stories while they’re still working on bigger projects like The Batman: Part 2 and Brave and the Bold.
