It’s no surprise everyone wants Michelle Yeoh in their films – she’s incredibly creative and brings so much to a role. James Cameron has long hoped to work with her on the Avatar series and now sees a perfect opportunity in Avatar 4, should it be made. He told TVBS News (via People) that Michelle is “definitely going to be in 4, if we make 4.” Cameron envisions her playing a Na’vi character named Paktuelat, though he hasn’t revealed which tribe she’ll belong to. With Cameron already exploring the land, sea, and fire aspects of Pandora, a new underground tribe could be the setting for Paktuelat’s story. While the official Avatar account previously announced Yeoh would play Dr. Karina Mogue, Cameron may have found a different role for her, or perhaps her character will transform into a Na’vi, similar to Jake Sully in the first Avatar film.
Even though ‘Avatar’ has earned over $1 billion worldwide, director James Cameron is worried Disney will approve further installments. He notes the film industry is currently struggling and ‘Avatar 3’ was very expensive to produce. To ensure future movies happen, the next films need to be financially successful, and Cameron is exploring ways to make them more affordably. He jokingly suggests that, if the fourth and fifth movies aren’t greenlit, Michelle Yeoh can at least participate in a press conference he plans to hold announcing the news.
