The proposed fight between Jake Paul and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, which had almost reached an agreement, has unfortunately fallen through because Canelo has different priorities now.
Over the past few years, Jake Paul has frequently aimed criticisms at prominent figures in martial arts. Both Conor McGregor and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez have been frequent recipients of his verbal barbs.
At first, the renowned Mexican boxer seemed uninterested in Jake’s threats, advising him to concentrate on his rising career instead. However, after the YouTuber demonstrated his boxing skills, the boxer has expressed a potential interest in facing him in a match sometime in the future.
It was announced on February 3rd that there were plans for the two to meet up in Las Vegas for Canelo’s yearly Cinco de Mayo fight. But it appears those plans have since been cancelled.
Jake Paul vs Canelo is off
Instead, the reigning super-middleweight titleholder has agreed to a four-bout contract for encounters in Saudi Arabia, including an eagerly anticipated matchup with Terence Crawford.
According to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger, in an unexpected turn of events regarding the Jake Paul fight, Canelo Alvarez has instead secured a four-fight agreement with Turki Alalshikh and Riyadh Season, paving the way for the Terence Crawford mega fight in September.
At the last possible moment before the Jake Paul fight, Canelo Alvarez chose not to go through with it. Instead, he signed a four-fight contract with Turki Alalshikh and Riyadh Season, saving the planned match against Terence Crawford for September.

Alalshikh, head of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, has spoken out against potential rematches involving Jake after his loss to Tommy Fury.
“Please, we don’t want any YouTuber fights again,” he told DAZN back in March 2024.
He took another shot at Jake with the Canelo deal, saying: “Canelo only fights real fighters.”

Jake Paul slams Canelo Alvarez as fight scrapped
Paul hit out at the boxer in a post on X, saying the cancelation was “not surprising.”
Latest Update: Canelo Alvarez apparently avoided a fight with Jake Paul, leading some to suggest that he is now controlled by others without respect for his Mexican supporters in the U.S. This action aligns with his career history, which has been largely unengaged with boxing beyond the ring. In contrast, Jake Paul asserts himself as the fresh, exciting face of boxing.
Latest Update: Contrary to what some might say, Canelo Alvarez chose not to face me, Jake Paul, in the ring. However, it’s hard not to notice that his actions seem to disregard the honor and expectations of the Mexican community who admire him here in the US. It’s no secret that throughout his career, he hasn’t shown much dedication to the sport of boxing outside the ring. I, on the other hand, am proudly stepping up as a fresh symbol…

2025’s most significant boxing match can’t happen without my participation being mentioned. When your events struggle and lose money, you’ll all understand who rules this sport. I am 28 years old, setting records for the biggest fight in boxing history. Self-employed, not owned by anyone else. Five years into my career, and all you cats are eagerly waiting for me to stumble, but fate has something different in store. This is an era of prosperity, an era of the elephant, an era of Most Valuable Player – that’s me!
KSI mocks Jake Paul over Canelo fight
Apart from Alalshikh, KSI joined in on making light of Jake’s situation regarding the deal’s collapse. He even aimed a few jabs at his longstanding adversary.
“Now what buddy?” he asked in an Instagram story. “Keep running from me bro.”

MVP says they are talking to other “high-profile opponents”
In an email sent to TopMob, MVP expressed their disappointment over how events transpired.
The match between Jake Paul and Canelo Alvarez, which MVP was trying to finalize for a grand event over Cinco de Mayo weekend in Las Vegas, is unfortunately no longer happening. This would have been a significant fight for Mexican, Puerto Rican, and American fans alike. MVP, known for their integrity, transparency, and respect for the sport, athletes, and spectators, expressed disappointment at how the situation evolved. Regrettably, not everyone in the boxing community seems to uphold these same values.
In this case, it’s a good lesson to be cautious about accepting information blindly, as the media landscape today can frequently be influenced by individuals with secret motives, such as advertisers who pay journalists for favorable coverage.
Our negotiations continue with several well-known competitors, and we’re dedicated to providing epic bouts, thrilling shows, and collaborating with allies who align with our principles and dedication to boxing and the athletes themselves.
Jake hints that he’ll make a fight announcement shortly, suggesting there might be more to come. Yet, it seems his desired match-up will once again need to be postponed.
