Jacob Elordi’s Sexy Sideburns Steal the Show in Berlin

At the premiere of his war-themed miniseries “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” on a snowy Berlin night, Jacob Elordi made heads turn with his new look – a stylish pair of sideburns as part of his latest facial hair style.

The beard that caused a stir on the internet when the actor attended the Marrakech Film Festival jury in December is now gone. However, it seems his decision wasn’t in vain. Sporting an all-black ensemble and showcasing some chest hair, the actor known for “Euphoria” and “Saltburn” proudly displayed his sideburns on the red carpet before walking into the Zoo Palast with director Justin Kurzel and his co-stars. As production for Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of “Wuthering Heights,” where Elordi will portray Heathcliff alongside Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw, is set to begin this year, it’s plausible that the sideburns are part of his character preparation for playing the troubled hero.

Beyond the buzz surrounding the latest Brontë movie adaptation, however, Elordi’s visit to Berlin was primarily to introduce “The Narrow Road to the Deep North.” In this production, he takes on the role of an Australian medical officer who is captured as a Japanese POW during World War II. The only thing that helps him endure the unimaginable horrors he encounters is the recollection of a passionate love affair with his uncle’s wife, Amy. The screenings shown to Berlin audiences were both haunting and sensual, alternating between graphic depictions of life in a POW camp (which made some viewers close their eyes) and the illicit romance between Elordi’s character Dorrigo and the younger wife of his uncle, portrayed by Odessa Young.

Following an appropriate round of applause, Elordi, Kurzel, and their team ascended to the stage for a Q&A session. Elordi deliberately waited before joining them, gesturing for the rest to precede him. Regarding the creation of the central love story, Elordi shared that he and Young simply spent time at a table discussing love, reviewing the script, lounging on a couch, and just casually conversing about it without restraint.

He went on to say, ‘Odessa and I share a deep passion for acting.’ In such situations when Justin vacates the room, leaving only the camera, we’re typically in a stunning, remote hotel. In these moments, we’re free to truly embody our roles.”

Or simply:

“He said, ‘Odessa and I are both avid actors.’ When Justin leaves us alone in a beautiful, secluded hotel with just the camera rolling, that’s when we can really immerse ourselves in our characters.

During the Q&A session, some attendees chose to depart, and one interjected while producer Jo Porter was discussing how the series is particularly impactful due to its portrayal of ongoing conflicts. Shortly after, a woman leaving the screening vocalized her frustration, stating bluntly that “no one cares” about Ukraine, apparently displeased by Porter’s lack of explicit mention of the country. The room responded with audible sighs of disapproval.

When the Q&A session concluded, Elordi gestured excitedly towards the audience with a double thumbs up and spoke into the microphone, “Thank you, thank you very much,” evoking memories of the iconic musician he depicted in Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla.” Despite not fully immersing himself like Austin Butler to play Elvis, it’s evident that some aspects of his characters linger within him – let’s hope those sideburns destined for Heathcliff don’t.
