As a film enthusiast with a penchant for poignant narratives and a soft spot for war dramas that tug at my heartstrings, I am thrilled to learn about Jacob Elordi’s upcoming series, “The Narrow Road to the Deep North.” The fact that this adaptation of Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning novel has been acquired by the BBC for U.K. broadcast is a testament to its potential greatness.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has obtained the rights to air the Jacob Elordi drama series titled “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” in the United Kingdom.

In the United Kingdom, BBC One and iPlayer will air the five-part adaptation of Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning novel, featuring Ciarán Hinds and Odessa Young. Meanwhile, viewers in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand can watch it on Prime Video.

A premiere date has not been set yet.

The Narrow Road To The Deep North” is a story that explores the contrasting themes of war’s atrocities and deep-seated love. In this tale, Elordi takes on the role of Dorrigo Evans, a character who navigates life’s most profound highs and lows. This journey includes entering into a passionate romance with Amy Mulvaney (Young), only to find himself imprisoned in a POW camp later. Eventually, Evans becomes a highly respected surgeon and an unwilling war hero. The older version of Evans is played by Hinds.

The show is created by Curio Pictures, which is supported by Sony Pictures Television, broadcast by Amazon MGM Studios, and helmed by director Justin Kurzel (“Assassin’s Creed”). The script was penned by Shaun Grant.

Sue Deeks, head of BBC’s program acquisition, praised ‘The Narrow Road to the Deep North’ as a multi-layered, stunning, and emotionally intense series that skillfully combines different phases in the life of surgeon Dorrigo Evans, from the initial excitement of young love to the raw portrayal of life as a prisoner of war in occupied Burma. We are thrilled to share this exceptional adaptation with our BBC viewers.

Curio Pictures’ Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner, in their roles as executive producers, commented: “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” is a grand story that showcases love’s enduring strength even under the most challenging conditions. Curio feels privileged to be part of bringing this remarkable narrative to fruition alongside creators Shaun Grant and Justin Kurzel, author Richard Flanagan, and our incredibly talented cast and crew. We eagerly anticipate audiences’ reactions to it.

Alexandra Taussig collaborates on a project as executive producer alongside Porter, Gardner, Kurzel, Grant, and Flanagan. The main financing for production comes from Screen Australia, with additional support from the New South Wales Government through their Made in NSW and PDV Funds initiatives.
